Your note is nice, however, if you can not spell correctly you will not be hired. As for Hospitals? you must 1) have 2 years experience in the field and 2) speak Spanish. For walgreens you have to go to the store, become friends with the Manager and take the test for the medications on the store computer before they think of hiring you. But you may want to wait on that because there has been a 4 year hiring freeze for the Pharmacy at all Walgreens. I speak with the Pharm Techs at Walgreens every week and they let me know if there are any updates on availablity of employment. I have been trying since 2009. In the mean time I have become a C.N.A. and am now going for Medical Information Specialist to get my foot in the door at a Hospital and eventually be in the Pharmacy. Good Luck and don't give up!!

Carry in Houston, Texas said: Been turned down for 4 years as a Certified Pharmacy Technician. Went to school got certified and registered. The problem, I have No experience. So how can I get a pharmacy technician job without no previous pharmacy technician experience, only school experience. I'd go into a pharmacy to speak to the head Pharmacist and it seems they look at you good first, then say no openings and will tell me to try elsewhere???? I even took a job readiness class so I know how to speak and dress somewhat professional, clean looking, natural hair color, close toe shoes, clean nails etc. even when walking in. Do they pick by appearance and choose whom they prefer to work there? Of course they will pick the one with more experience but how can I even start if I never get hired? I also heard that the staff won't have the time to train you if you are new so they won't bother hiring you???? Why won't they even give someone new to the field a try? How to get a Pharmacy technician job with no previous retail or hospital experience?

Man i feel yah, sometimes i feel at a loss too all the enthusiasm the studying the cost of studying ready to work ect as if its all going out the window and for what? like you said selective hiring

PHARMACY TECH JOBS ARE NOT ON THE RISE! its on a freeze so don't get scammed by the schools or even by PTCB. don't get certified not worth the time and money. No pharmacy jobs is going to hire you unless you have 1 or 2 years of solid EXP!!!!

In my circumstance it took one year to process my license and by that time I was already an unemployed Pharmacy Technician with no experience and no recent job experience as so much time had passed since completing my externship. I had a very high recommendation by my supervisor but was told days before I completed my externship that there was a hiring freeze which is still in effect years later.

You will not become a pharmacist working as an entry-level pharmacy technician. You need to study to become a pharmacist which takes a degree and years of education and experience. Haha do YOUR homework!

I am from chicago. Maybe when you took up Pharmacy Technician course, your instructor did not emphasize well about Mail Order Pharmacy. This is the booming Pharmacy business nowadays. I don't like to elaborate why... Just look around in California about CVS/Caremark, the biggest Mail Order Pharmacy. They are still hiring many Pharmacy Techs graduates, even without expiriences, as long as you are Certified. Good luck,I hope you will find work.

This is a lie. It really depends on where you are located and how aggressively you market yourself. I was recently hired by a mail-order company and I haven't taken the certification exam as of date. Admittedly you have to be flexible in the particular areas that you apply and it helps if you have a certification to back it up. But a lot of it is due to networking and speaking with the pharmacist or know someone in the organization. Also you have to apply as soon as it is posted. If it usually three days post, your chances of even getting drops exponentially, but not impossible. Also tailor your resume and cover letter for each job that you apply for. Don't use a boilerplate resume and cover letter for every position you apply for. Also if you don't hear from them after two weeks, call organization and inquire if the position is still available.

Also I wanted to clear up some misunderstandings I see posted in here. Technically pharmacy techs can move up in a position, meaning that they could become a supervisor over other pharmacy techs, they could become an instructor on the side (hence more income), become something else such as working in IT (since they have hands on experience in working with some of the apps used in pharmacy), and the list goes on. So being a pharmacy tech is not some dead end job as some pessimistic folks make it out to be. Of course you will have to attend classes to gain some skills but if you are fortunate, you might have an employer that will help you pay for it. For me, pharmacy tech is a stepping stone into a field I am working towards.

If you can afford, you will have to move. Sounds like the Californian job market is in the toilet.

I keep seeing these horror stories about going to school to become a pharmacy technician and then after graduation the student finds out that the school wasn’t Florida Board Certified. Why waste money and time on these schools? You can’t get hired. So, I’ve been specifically looking up certified schools and this school “PharmTec” (www.pharmtecschools.com) I found seems to be the best bet. They’re more affordable and have a shorter duration than a lot of other schools. And, they’re board certified!

The best way to become a Pharmacy Technician is to take an online program offered by www.RxTechExam.com They offer and extraordinarily inexpensive curriculum that has yielded a very high success rate on the National Examination. Don't be tricked into spending thousands on your education. Do it for less.

I WOULDN'T MIND BUT I'M LIVING ON MY OWN AND I DON'T THINK I COULD AFFORD TO JUST VOLUNTEER MY TIME AS A PHARM TECH WITH NO PAY. WHERE WOULD I HAVE THE TIME TO GET A PART TIME JOB WHILE VOLUNTEERING? I AM SO PISSED OFF WITH THIS PHARM TECH S***, I DON'T THINK I'M GOING TO RENEW MY LICENSE! I'M IN SACRAMENTO, CALIFORNIA IF ANYBODY CAN HELP???

Try asking to shadow for a couple days at walgreens, CVS or local drug store. And put in your resume that you have shadowed those places. Even though you have no experience. At least they know you have been in the setting before and may get you the job.

So do you have any suggestions on "Job Searching" the market or is it just an indeed search like everything else? I am glad that the job makes for growth, however I also, sadly am having a hard time finding an occupation... I have my CPhT certification, however right now mount prospect is not a workable distance from me, and I would like to get some experience in the field. Where should I start looking? Western Suburbs

Have you cold-called local hospitals or clinics or independent pharmacies? How about nursing homes or long term care homes? Have you applied to Baxter?

If you are struggling passing the PTCB exam or scared need that
extra assurance, you are not alone! I have been there! I'm happy
to help! I noticed many books out there make it harder than it needs
to be! You don't need a tutor! You don't need to spend 10k for a
school or 2k for one of those online schools. All you need is the
right tools to pass the exam! I spent countless hours of hard
sweat work to find the right tools that made it easy to understand.
I passed the PTCB exam with flying colors on the first attempt!
