I live in chicago, and i have been looking for a part time job, because i am currently a stay at home mom, and feel like i need to get out. Check around, because believe it or not i went onto the Walgreens website and they hire pharmacy techs with no experience, no certification. all is needed is a hs diploma. and train and certify them there. Can you believe that? of course i applied, and hopefully will hear back from someone soon, i don't know how it is where you live, but here in chicago, there is a walgreens on every corner. i also applied at Osco, and CVS pharmacy and Target pharmacy. they all have the same "in-house training". good luck.

I have a Bachelor of Science Degree from Wayne State University and experience in hospital pharmacy. I would be interested in any type of pharmacy job or hospital storeroom job. I would considerrelocation if necessary. I need a full time job with benefits to keep my house I have lived in for a long time. If anyone has any suggestions about obtaining pharmacy employment please let me know.

Hi Anita,
Mixing IVs is not that complicated. If you have the basics of sanitary and sterile technique, the rest is just math. It's just a matter of the amount of drug that you are adding to the IV. Normal saline for example,is 0.9%. If you were adding the NaCl from scratch, that would be 9 mg per ml, or 0.9gm per 100ml or 9 gm per liter etc.

I look on Monster and do not see any pharmacy tech positions open at all around Detroit. Seems like all jobs are filled internally now or through connecttions. No chance for anyone on the outside.
Any suggestions? I would also consider Home Health Care Tech if I know where to look?
Its really hard to know you have a year of experience and education as a pharmacy tech and not be able to find employment to ever feed yourself? Such a waste . . .

It seems to be the same way all over the country. I spent 1200 hours of training at the VA pharmacy, passed the PTCB exam, obtained an Oregon state licence and have not been able to find a pharmacy job in over a year. After a while, it becomes even harder to find a job(if that is possible),because no one wants to hire a candidate without recent experience. Yet the schools keep cranking out new technician graduates!!!

Sad very sad what people are put through only to find at the end of the line of class after class, hard work and years of training that there is NO job available to them . . . to provide even the simplest of necessities for themselves . . .

lIMAVIC IN CHICAGO I hope you let us know what the outcome was of you inquiry into jobs at WALGREENS, sounds like an attempt to flood the market with underqualified applicants so they can pay them the minimum wasge for a job that requires at least some college. I will inquire also and report back.
Thanks,

A great website is INDEED.com it pulls from everywhere, just search pharmacy otherwise craigslist is good.

There are jobs out there, its just a lot of digging. I will also admit being a past instruxtor for these schools they pop out students faster than jobs are created. I ended up opening my search national. I have been a tech for a number of years and wanted to move up in the field with out becoming a pharmacist.

John hardy - I find it odd you get find a job, or maybe its just michigan. I have my BS with pharm background and got a pharmaceutical sales job, I have been account managers, basically combined the 2 together phamracy and degree. It has to be Michigan that you can't find a job open your search to a few other states and you'll have something, unless your looking to be only a pharm tech.

I have completed the national Pharmacy certification process in addition to attending an accredited training school. I am learning a little bit more everyday. The main thing I have learned is the difference in pay! Some stores will start you with as little as $9.00 an hour(which is not enough for rent and utilities) and then you have some labs that start you of with as miuch as $16.00 an hour. I am tryng to get into a lab!! If there is anyone out there than can offer any advice,it will so greatly be appreciated.

PTCB is/was a waste of time, nobody will hire without experience, especially in Michigan - save your money, you will need it when the unemployment runs out !!!

Interesting that people from all around the US are saying the same thing. Is this pharmacy tech field merely a come on for people in the position to make money educating people for jobs which do not exist which is what alot of the AMERICAN educational system is based on not unlike the military industrial complex which has existed since the Vietnam War era. I am totally disillusioned with it. The only people who benefit from it are the people teaching the courses.

Hey sometimes your better off with no experience. I 've been a retail pharmacy tech for the past 10 years and have been out of work for 8 months!! And I'm certified. I don't feel this is an advantage at this point and I had to pay for my recertification recently! The job market sucks, if you want a job at Burger King or any fast food place you would probably have more luck.
