I completed my CPT1 course and was officially lic by the State of CA as a CPT1 in August 2010, however finding a position for a new grad seems to be nearly impossible without at least 1 year experience. Any suggestions on how to break into the field before my skills become rusty. I invested too much to let this go to waste........ |

Nick..to be quite honest with you, my Phlebotomy course did not properly prepare me for the test. The test is geared for the NCCT students....I would recommend studying anything and everything you can find, however I would not recommend purchasing the NCCT study guide...pretty useless and covered maybe 5% of the test questions. I found the book titled Phlebotomy Exam Review 3rd edition by McNally through Amazon.com to be very helpful. Quite a few questions on the test had to do with the legal and safety aspects of Phlebotomy.....Critical thinking is necessary for the questions/answers of the test. Common sense questions were few...

They are recommending us to purchase NCCT study guide but I see you are stating it was very useless. |

I AM NOT HAPPY ONE BIT IT IS EXACTLY WHAT YOU STATED VERY POOR TRAINING AS FAR AS BLOOD DRAWING TRAINING ALWAYS YELLING AT STUDENTS TO THE POINT OF NO ONE WANTS TO GO TO DRAW BLOOD AND FINDING OUT THE MATERIAL LEANED ARE FROM 1940's. THEN THERE IS NOT ENOUGH STUDENTS TO DRAW BLOOD IS CREATING THE CLASS TO BECOME UNSUCCESSFUL IN FINISHING ON TIME FOR THE MAJORITY UNLESS YOU RESIDE CLOSE BY AND CAN BRING PEOPLE IN BUT THERE ARE FEW WHO TRAVEL LONG DISTANCE ONLY TO BECOME DISCOURAGED AND OUTRAGED. |

I am happy to say congratulations to those who did well and passed the course and got there certification. However I am curios how much did this school Ja'onnas charge to take this course. I am Starting Saturday January 28th at Delta Community College in Stockton, Ca the class meets every Saturday from 8am-4pm for 6 full Saturdays and then your done but the course costed $2400 that you can make payments on at the lowest about $220 p/month with $500 down to enroll you a spot in the program included fed ex delivered my books to my house 3 weeks before the school start date so you can start studying early and included in the package was this book I see that everyone from this Ja'onnas had to purchase outside or on their own the book I got in my package deals where the "National Center for Competency Testing" it says on the book a review book for the phlebotomy Technician a official review book from NCCT. And a big text book was also sent called "Phlebotomy Essentials" fifth edition by Ruth E. Mccall the book is royal blue color with blood viles/ testing tubes on the cover. I hope Delta course I do not experience this when I start school this saturday that would really suck especially because even though the program is only 6 saturdays who has $2500 to throw away because you cannot find an employer to hire you unless you got that 1 year experience straight garbage. By the way do Ja'onnas school do externship? I'm asking because this may be the reason why delta is high because in our packet it describes after you pass the course and receive your certification within 30 days or less an outfield worker in your area will call you with 3 potential places to go do externship in your city of area whether that be a hospital or small health laboratory. To volunteer work and receive hands on training for 40 hours of your free time total you have to give up Monday-Friday from 8am-5pm equalling out to 40hrs after your done these business can hire you after completed hours |
