I took the phlebotomy course here in Mississippi back in July 2008 and received my certification about 3weeks later. I believe some other company may have bought them out so I'm a little unsure how to proceed. I am currently trying to get an updated phlebotomy certification from them with current dates on it due to changing jobs.

Anyway has anybody taken a medtexx course before? I hope its not the bs and I haven't wasted my 400.00, cause I will be really pissed. Anyway I'm glad I found this site. I am a nurse, but I wanted to take up this phlebotomy course to make some extra money. Anyway good luck to you all.
I took their course in July 2008 and received my certification by mail about 3 weeks later. The course was kindof a joke, but at least I did receive the paper certification that employers like to see. I believe another company may have bought them out now but Im not sure.

Medical Career Specialists offers several healthcare training programs including Phlebotomy. Their Phlebotomy Technician Certification workshops are only two (2) days long and covers EVERYTHING and you even get to do hands on practice. Mock exams, study guide, phlbeotomy cards, lab supplies, etc are all inlcuded in the program fee. At the end of training they register you for the NATIONAL certification exam and have a 98% exam success rate. Pretty impressive. I did the one week Medical Assistant program and got my certification in less than a week and got a job the following week, believe it or not. They do a great job helping with job placement and resume preparation too. I'd recommend anyone to them because you won't be sorry. Their website is www.MedicalCareerSpecialists.com, You can see customer reviews about the company at merchantcircle.com. Goodluck all!

FOXY BROWN in Birmingham, Alabama said: This is Foxy Brown and Yes I got a certificate right then for completing the phlebotomy program, but no I did not get my phlebotomy certification. You have to wait for about an year to have all the requirements for the state exam like a certain amount of sticks, and be able to preform different techniques. And actually I work at a hospital as a lab tech and majortiy of my coworkers are not certified and thay have be working as a phlebotomist for many years without being certified. You can still find a job as long as you have had some type of phlebotomy training.

Dear Foxy Brown and everyone else reading this:

I am a Certified Phlebotomist and I went to school to become a Phlebotomist. I too work at a hospital, and I find that if you are going to go through the trouble to become a Phlebotomist, why not take the extra hour it takes to take the test and get Certified??? It amazed me that hospitals, including mine I work at do not require people to be certified!!!! The mistakes I have seen are astounding!!! The Certification is not required by all means, but it is a plus because there are things that you need to know that the Phlebotomy class doesn't teach you! By getting Certified you are protecting yourself, as well as the well being of the patients!

You do NOT have to wait a year to get certified. You only need 50 sticks and you I am not sure what this person meant by performing different techniques. If you are going to get certified, go to ASCP, which is American Society for Clinical Pathology and get certified through them as they are what most employers recognize. They are also nation wise. Recognized in all 50 states including Canada! Hope this helps!

Just wondering if anyone knew of a course in Mobile? Fortis college web site shows that they offer the phlebotomy class in Mobile, but when I contacted them I was told that they only offer it in Foley. That is a little too far for me.

There is currently a two day training class being offered in Saraland by SITTI, Selma Institute of Technical Training. They give you online work to do before the hands on training and the cost is $550. I'm trying to find out if they are accredited, but have had no luck. Has anyone tried this or know of this program?
