I attended the phlebotomy program thats Kaiser offers at their North Hollywood reference lab and finished my 3 week externship at a Kaiser hospital as of last month. And I'll tell ya its seems really tough to get a foot in anywhere. I mean I've applied for temp, per diem, part time, full time jobs everything. Quest, Labcorp and even the correctional facility. In my externship I worked in and out patient so Im really confident about my skill but its just getting that first opportunity to grasp the knowledge to flourish that seems to be difficult. I know nothing is over night but just wondering if anyone had any tips that I might have over looked or any help at all? Thanks in advance everyone! |

I feel you, I'm trying to get my foot in door as well. Don't how, just hope and pray someone will see our application and give us a chance! I've applied to it all in the past month.. silence is all I heard. Just keep trying and be proactive is all I can tell myself. |

I suggest applying to those reference labs Quest/LabCorp over a hospital for now. Some hospitals are still on or are starting their hiring freezes again, while others are just filling positions internally. Also, make sure your phone is with you at all times. A lot of these places won't call twice and some won't even bother to leave a voice mail. If you got the time and more money, try an RN program. RNs are hired practically everywhere. You might be stuck doing a desk job as an RN but at least you got a job, and at least you're an RN that is flexible enough to be in another department unlike a CPT1. |

Jeff, you attended a phlebotomy program at Kaiser, and that didn't help you get your foot in the door at Kaiser? Please update us. Are you working now? |
