JC in Bourneville, Ohio 63 months ago	Well first of all, I had a job as a phlebo. It was hard to come by. Matter of fact it took me a year to come by this one. Then being fresh out of school and only holding my position for 7 months, I feel like I lost the most important thing in my life. I know what youo are saying about the exp. part. I moved to Augusta Georgia in Feb and I have not yet found a job here. I have tried everything, I went to the Human Resources Department at the places I tried to apply for and I was told to apply online and submit my resume. I have done so, and still I have no job. So now I currently working a job that does not pay much. I'm still trying to apply for a phlebotomy position and I'm thinking of going back to school to enhance my career and maybe work in blood bank or a laboratory technician. You can increase the commuting distance in the Advanced Search option. I increased the radius to 50 miles around Dallas which seems to provide a greater amount of job listings: www.indeed.com/jobs?q=Phlebotomist&l=Dallas%2C+TX&radius=50 - Was this comment helpful? For example, include both Phlebotomist and Phlebotomy. If you click on the "more actions" link located on the bottom line of each job listing you'll see direct links to social networking sites LinkedIn and Ryze. I looked for a job probably for 6 months after I completed school. One day I called Unilab Corp. now Quest Diagnostics and even asked the supervisor that same question. We are not rookies though. We have clinical experience when we go to school. I drew over 800 patients before my clinicals were over and 200 before my first week was over. The hospital I did my clinicals at, you wear a student name badge and the patients don't even notice your a student and when they do notice they usually say that the experience was the same as with someone who has been drawing them for years. - Was this comment helpful? erica in San Marcos, California 61 months ago	yea i to would like to know how to land a phelebotomy job. i am licnesed and certifited. but everyone says sorry you need 6 months to 2 years expernice. but isn't your externship spposed to count as expernice? i want nothing more then to be working as a phelebotomist thats why i went to school. but if no one will hire me to give me the chance to get a start on my phelebotomy career. someone please tell me how i'm sposed to get that expernice. to land that job. - Was this comment helpful? I register for numerous staffing agencies in which they would only send me on filing. No one would give me a break. So, finally my big break came when something long term came in. Sometimes you have to go back again and again, call and call, and just bug them till they are tired of seeing you and hearing from you. Jackie in Athens, Ohio 60 months ago	I had a hard time finding a job. I am in college now trying to get my associates in Med. Asst. I know that some places that hire temps will sometimes work with you. We have a place called Wise Medical, they fill in medical positions when someone is sick or on vacations, and have shot clinics. I have tried for a job there a few times, but everytime I think it is going to work out something happens to keeps me from being able to. I started my clinicals and never missed a stick and where i did my clinicals i had over 1200 sticks in 3 weeks and we also wore student tags and ask the patient before we stuck them and almost everyone was fine with it we have to start somewhere i now have 9mths experience but they do want 1 to 2 years expewrience so what do u do?????????????? - Was this comment helpful? Camille in Tucker, Georgia 59 months ago	I have had a hard time getting started myself here in ATL. I took the National Exam yesterday and obtained my certification. These credentials pay more and my school informed me before we graduated last June that people are not hiring much unless you have a national certification. So i'm starting over. I am determined. Im targeting nursing homes, clinics, hospitals, staffing agencies, private labs, all of the above. Not giving up. A few of my schoolmates got jobs fresh out of school because the went on to get their Natl. Cert. with a staffing agency. I've had to learn the hard way these nine months later. I've had my phlebotomy certification for almost 2 years now but have not been able to find work as a phlebotomist for the same reason. But even know it does get really depressing you can't give up you have to keep on trying.Just think of it this way for every day that goes by that you have tryed for a job that just makes you one day closer to finding that job that is out there. if you give up you might miss that chance. I would love to work for the Red Cross out of Cleveland but they require traveling to NINETEEN COUNTIES in Ohio which isn't something the average person wants to do. Yeah,maybe if I was younger with no kids but it just seems like a LOT of driving (in your own car and not their mobile trailer) and very long hours. LC in Dayton, Ohio 58 months ago Guide	A lot of highly trained,certified people are applying and applying and getting nowhere while others can waltz right into a position,sometimes with very little or poor training. Until that is changed,until everyone who DRAWS BLOOD has to prove that they have a lengthy amount of phlebotomy and clinical lab science education and are registered,then this will continue. I was told that lot of hospitals have to advertise that a position is available and you will see that ad for weeks or months. What they are doing is gathering up a lot of applications so they can pick and choose,but then they end up hiring in a recent student that did their clinicals there. A teacher of mine admitted that hospitals LIKE to hire those type in because they are familiar with them and the former student already knows what to expect,and doesn't need to be shown much more. But these same ex-students have the EXACT amount of experience as you,if you did a clinical. How these HR people can excuse that is beyond me,and it should be brought to their attention. Unless these places NEVER hire in a recent ex- student that did their externship there,then they do not have the right to be telling anyone else who ALSO did several weeks of in and out patient clinicals- "You don't have enough experience". There are other avenues to try first,like applying at your local blood banks (they will hire totally untrained people sometimes),seeing if any paramedical examiner companies have any work in your area,weight loss centers that have blood draws as part of their membership,health clinic companies like "Interfit"-and keeping in contact with your classmates,even if you couldn't stand some of them. They may hear of something that you don't since some of them are looking also. Phlebotomy programs need to start having a job placement specialist to be helping out. I started my clinical in a hospital and they hired me and I've worked for a year and a half and that is still not enough experience for them out here in Georgia so my next move is going back to school because I have no other choice. - Was this comment helpful?
