Does anyone know of any places to volunteer, besides American Redcross, in the Bay Area? American Redcross has closed off it's volunteer listings all over California. I've been a certified phlebotomist for 10 months now and want to keep up my certification through volunteering at least, just like everyone else I still haven't been able to find a job. If anyone could please post up any websites or listings it would be great. Any clinics, veterans hospitals, hospitals in general, places like Redcross?

Hi,

You may want to consider moving to North Texas. they are HIRING BIG TIME at Carter Blood Center in Bedford, TX

They are ALWAYS hiring even before the Financial Crisis.

Other states are cutting back, be we are NOT in this Line of Work and WILL NOT be for years to come.

Good Luck and may GOD Bless YOU.

All you have to do is get your insurance agent to refer you to a paramedical company. If you don't have much experience they will start you out collecting urine, medical histories and physical measurements,ht,wt,b/p's. That's how I got started.

You can also check temp agencies.

You might want to try BioLife plasma centers (owned by Baxter), if you live near one. They are across the country in select locations, but they will hire and train if needed. My boyfriend got a job there with no phlebotomy experience.

try look at craigslist.com probably u can see any hiring there, but right now Im actively doing volunteer at one of the biggest hospital here in Calif. But bcoz of the economic crisis, they're really not hiring. They freeze the hiring process, in fact they cut hours of employees and they're doing cost cutting. almost everybody experience the same no one is alone.

nicole stone in Bronx, New York said: I would Like to start working as a phlebotomist however, companies want at least 6mths-1yr.of experience. How can I get some experience if I just became certified?

Nicole,
It took me 6 months of hardcore pavement pounding to get my first phlebotomy job after being certified. My last plan was to volunteer at a hospital for the summer and then try to get on staff. I was already to start my volunteer work when I got my job at the Federal Correctional Instutution, aka federal prison. I found an agency that actually called me back called Staff USA. It took a few months since I wasn't even one of the top five candidates. It was stressful! I feel your pain. But I got in because I have good credit, clean criminal record, and passed their intense background check. My experience didn't get me a job but being a good law-biding citizen did. Go figure. Try volunteering at a hospital or an agency. Good luck! don't give up!

Shelby,
Sorry I don't have an answer for you. I'm surprised that you have to pay insurance though...must be your state requirement. In California, the school carries your insurance. When you get a job, your insurance is covered by your employer. Good luck

You might try looking at companies that have intern like MD Anderson Cancer Hospital or Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center or donor center most of then train.

Did you ever find a phlebotomy job. I am a phlebotomist who graduated in May 2009 from ABC training center. Just sat down crying out of frustration because I keep hearing the same things over and over again. I feel like I have wasted my money doing something for which no one will give you room to breath. Please help

I am desperately looking for a phlebotomy job near Keene, New Hampshire. I completed the program and excternship requirements but have found that all positions require 1+ year experience. I am willing to volunteer to get more experience but can't even find those openings/options. I love doing this so much I'd CONTINUE to volunteer even if I found a job and took it. HELP!!!!!!!

Hi Shelby, it's part of the program. The insurance is what you called student insurance, it's under 40 dollars, varries from state to state that's for externship. Just incase if you ever do wrong during your clinical.

I got really lucky when I finished school. I found a job through a job listing site and they were willing to train and I worked with top nurses who taught me great techniques in phlebotomy. Keep looking and hopefully you will run into a place who have the patience to teach you and brush up on your techniques because it takes more than just locating a vein there is so much more involved like making the patient comfortable and comprehending what your doing and learning from it and follow safety guidelines.. keep looking you will find something don't give up ;-)

My school didn't have the insurance to cover us to draw blood during our clinical trials, so I don't really have my Phlebotomy Certificate yet from NCCT, though I AM certified because we have to take blood 25 times, and do 6-7 capillaries. Does anyone have any idea what I can do to gain that experience?

I am A current student through CCAC in Pittsburgh, I was wondering if anyone knows of any Hospitals or centers around the area I could do phlebotomy volunteer work? I still have 4 weeks left in school, but I would like to get a little more experiance before "applying for a job". I do know what I am doing, I've had several sticks thus far atleast 100 or more. But, I would feel more comfortable getting more practice. THANK YOU!!!!!
