Over $1700.00+ Net per week for a 40 hour work week. Varies in different areas based on living cost, but you can expect $1600 - $1800.00 net. |

Thanks Joe, Does 25 visits/wk constitue a 40 hour work week in home health? Should one expect to be reimbursed for mileage? You say NET income-- do I understand you to mean that this is /w-2 income with all the taxes paid by your employer and benefits paid too? I am looking for work in San Diego, CA |
|
Joe Meis in Freeport, New York 6 months ago |
Yes. $1600.00 - $1700.00 net after all taxes, and insurance deductions (difference in amount depending on location) Mileage reimbursement would be paid by facility/organization and is separate from our weekly pay. At some facilities, they allow us to bill them and pay you for gas/mileage reimbursement along with your other wages. The amounts above however, do rely on your tax home residing 50 miles or more away from the facility. So for instance, if you live in San Diego California and you are looking for a travel contract there....you do not qualify for tax free money at all...so your hourly rate (all taxable) would still be around $46 and up. |

Joe, help me understand why one would earn dramatically more working 50 miles away from home.. and why I would not 'qualify for 'tax free' money'-- isn't it all taxable? thanks again.. |
|
Joe Meis in Freeport, New York 6 months ago |
This is called the "tax advantage" program. To qualify as a "travel professional", ie: eligibility for tax free allowances, your PERMANENT TAX residence must be 50 miles or more away from the facility where you intend to work a contract [IRS rule]. Normally, if you qualify for these allowances, you would need to take this contract through an agency like ours to receive the tax free monies in your pay package. Don't be confused, as a traveler you would still receive a taxable wage in addition to these allowances. But the government created this incentive (tax free allowances) and a loose definition of a traveler, to make an incentive for people to go work these temporary contracts to fill urgent needs in other locations. ie: Why would you travel 50 miles or more away from where you live if it didn't appeal to your pocketbook?? Further, there are set per diem rates: maximum allowances...and they are set for each county/state in the US. So, taking a LOWER taxable amount will allow you to MAX OUT your tax free allowances for any given area, enabling you to make anywhere from $500.00 - $1000.00 more NET PAY per week than what you would normally make if you took all taxable. Another point though....Even a "travel" employee has the option to take an all taxable pay package. SO, you can still accept a contract within 50 miles of your permanent address, but now you aren't eligible for ANY tax-free money (IRS doesn't recognize you as traveling employee). However, the hospital/clinic pays US....and their rates even for local contracts are often DOUBLE the rate of a staff employee...and it's all tax-free for them to pay a vendor like us. We pay our employees weekly, and your pay package on a "local contract" would still be much higher than staff pay.... There is a great website that goes into much detail on this subject. Visit www.traveltax.com - and go to FAQs section to get a crash course on rules for travel professionals and tax free allowances. |

I am being offered a permanent full time, salaried position with pay at $44/hr- with quota to see 30 visits/week- they offer a car and all the regular paid benefits. Does this sound competitive? |
