Hi my name is cyrus i live in pennslyvania. I am taking the prerequsites for a physical therapy assistant program i was thinkng about nursing but i really dont think its for me. My question is this i always wanted to open a seal coating business(I only can do it during the summer months) unfortunitly i got sick wth crohns disease when i was 20 meaning that i have to work for somebody else so i can get health insurance. I might be gettng married soon meaning i can go under my wifes insurance or congress might do away with that preexistng conditons law for health insurace. Can ptas work homehealth care per diem like nurses can? Do you think one would be able to work in this professon 6-8 months a year and be able to consistantly find work? any input you have would be helpful thanx? P.S i really want to do this i showdowed a PTA and i have been going to a Pt clnic for a whiplash injury it feels like a good fit for me. Thanx

The answer is yes to your questions. You can find work as a per diem pta in home health, and you can work as much as you want. You an work as a traveler and get work assignments that are 3-6 month long. there are lots of options for PTAs. If you think you like what PTAs do, then do it. It's a great profession and its job satisfaction rates are very high.

Yes, you can do home health or just per-diem in most hospitals or SNF's if you want . You need to check the requirements for PTA's working without on site PT supervision though. PA just changed the requirements and I believe you need a certain amount of experience before you can work without the onsite supervison of a PT but I am not sure how long.
