I all...I've had this 'indirect supervision' license (in PA) as a PTA for a month now. Having said that, my employers and myself have no idea when a final draft will be 'finalized' and published for everyone to view. An example being...I work in an outpatient clinic, PRN which is owned by a hospital but is located 14 miles away from the actual hospital...So am I able to work at this facility w/o direct supervision? The revised PT act (rough draft) specifically states that a PTA is able to work OP in a 'private practice' with Indirect supervision or home health. Other then those 2 miscule changes, I don't see any difference from the previous act. Most of my job consists of subacute/SNF work so this license does not change anything for me. My day still revolves around when my supervising therapists are physically in the building. Any info from PT's or PTA's is appreciated! I've emailed the board weeks ago and still haven't heard any responses. hockman5@comcast.net

I'd call the state board and ask them directly. Especially since they haven't returned your email.

Curious - Is an "indirect supervision" license a temporary license?? In Texas, we have temporary licenses for new grads (until the state boards are taken/passed). This sounds similar.

No, it's a permanent license for PTA. You have to have so many hours/years of experience and had to reapply for the indirect supervision license b/c Pennsylvania is one of the most restrictive states in the country for a PTA to practice (I've been doing it 14 years now). Until this point, everything we do has to be 'directly supervised' by a PT unless you have this new license which the regulations are still very vague. I will try to call the board again, but I can't sit on hold for more then a 1/2 hr and that's how it's been. thanks!

If we find out any additional information, we will post here as well. My girlfriend has 15 years experience as a PTA in Philadelphia and the check that we sent for the license has just cleared the bank on Friday so I imagine she should get it in the mail shortly. We too are unclear of when/where we will be able to access a final draft. Any additional information you find out would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
