I moved from Edmonton, AB in feb.... Let me tell you, it is not a very fun experience. First you have to get your education accredited by a Credentialing agency here in the USA (this took me almost 6 months) After the agency says that you've met the standards of an "associates" program equivalent to an American 2yr college program you then have to apply with the government agency of whichever state you're planning to move to in order to take the National Boards Exam. (this process took me 1 year and 4 months) In my situation i was moving to Illinois. After my education was valid, i went to the professional building in my state's capitol city and got an application for licensure. I filled out the 15+ page application. My recommendation is to find the Department of Professinal and Finacial Regulations department of the state you're moving to and call them. Each state has their own requirements. You can find all this information on: |

Yep. i wrote my exam on the 19th of Nov and i got my results last week with a passing grade (of course :P)... My visa had nothing to do with my license because i was moving down to the states to marry my fiance. As for a working visa, i forgot what it was called, i remember looking into it a long time ago. Anyways, you need your potential employer to sponsor you over the board and show proof that you have a job waiting for you etc. Start off by finding a credentialing company here in the states.. i used ICD (international consultants of Delaware) They do education credentialing for all health care related jobs. I think it cost around 300 bucks when i did it. Once you have the results of that go to your state's Professional regulations website and look for PTA info.. For Illinois, i used www.idfpr.com/ |

Another suggestion is... Try finding an instructor or professor that teaches within the state and try convincing them via email to help you find information about state regulations etc. I went to a college here when i was visiting my fiance and talked to an instructor and he was able to help me out with licensing information |

Hello I am almost done with my PTA program another month, I will start my internship in June. I contact different recruiting agency in USA concerning a position as PTA. Some of them said foreign PTA are not eligible for H1B visa only foreign PT but other agency said they will assist foreign PTA. Can anybody please provide me more details. But it gets so confusing with different answers. Thanks |

Angelove, the H1B criteria for education is a bachelor's degree. since most countries PT's have a bachelor's degree in order for them to get their license it is not a problem for them. PTA's can run into an issue as far as obtaining an H1B visa. i am not sure if canada does a bachelor's degree for the PTA certification. if you are graduating with a bachelor's than you should have no problems applying for a h1b visa. I actually work in NY with a consulting firm dealing with different types of work visas. you can always contact me for more information if you need... jpark at bpcareerconsulting dot c o m |

Thank you for the information, yes there is a bachelor degree for PT in Canada, from what my teacher told me it will be best to have a Master too. But I am not ready to go back to school I already spend $10K. I guess I will work for PTA in Canada and later on complete the degree program |
