I am curious about how a PTA in the US makes the move to Canada? Is there a demand for PTAs in Canada? |

Hello. I am US citizen with a BS in PT and a PT license in the Philippines. I graduated in 1994. I didn't pass the PT exam here in the USA. I want to move to Canada to join the rest of my family. Do I need to pass the PT assistant exam for Ontario or is my education good enough? Thanks for your honest to goodness reply. |

Hi, I am currently enrolled in an 2 year OTA/PTA program at one of the colleges in Ontario. My ultimate goal is to become a PT but due to low marks, I had not option of going directly into University. But now that I am hearing all these messy things about the job outlook for PTAs, I am thinking of switching to Practical Nursing or if possible I would like to go into RN program. Can someone please advise me on this whether I should stick to the OTA/PTA program or should I switch to Practical Nursing because being a PTA won't help me get become a PTA. So should I stick to what I am currently doing or shoud I swith? By the way, I am in 2nd semester rightnow.

Hi Dear, I would advise you to stay in Ahmedbad or whichever part of India you are able to find employment as a PT. The recession has hit Canada and USA in a harsh way. Do not run after money as there are many more things that are there in life. If you already have employment in India as a PT, then it would be foolish to come to Canaada to become just a PTA/OTA after spending all those 4-6 years in earning your PT degree. This is only my opinion. But you should continue to follow up on your question for any useful advise. Good Luck,

He is in Canada & planning to work as a PTA to raise fund for his Accreditation. He has an OPEN PERMIT & waiting for our PR status. Is there any chances he could have the job as PTA?. thanks. Yes, he can definitely work as a PTA even without a certificate as a PTA. When the company knows that he is a RPT in the philipppines, they will surely consider that and that take it into account. I am also a Physical therapist in the philippines, currently working as a full-time PTA in Ontario, Canada-- Mississauga/ Brampton area for 3 Years now, and still awaiting for my alliance credentialling results. Have him mail in some resume to different clinics/ companies. A lot of them will surely get back to him for an interview. |

In the US PTA's can perform all treatments but not evaluations. Most states have requirements for having a PT present to supervise and co-sign notes. Here the most stressful part of the job is dealing with the insurance regulations and state laws. The rules are constantly changing and often when you call for information at, for example, Medicare--you are given incorrect information. Etc etc. Is the experience similar in Canada? What is the pay like there? Is it possible to work as an independent contractor? Are there many jobs? The US has a shortage right now of qualified therapists. Hi there

Yes, it doesn't matter if you have a lisence from your country.and it has to start from zero. Bit they will need all transcript and the syllabus book from your college and university directly send to them. The process takes 52- 56 weeks after it all reached to ALLIENCE . So start from your country only. Good luck |

Like am I suppose to find an employer who can sponsor me to go work in Canada and at the same time study for the Canadian PT exam? To tell you the truth, I found an employer online from Canada, but turned out to be a total scam. =/ Do you know any other information that can help me seek for an employment in canada while studying as well? Thank you. |
