My husband is a PTA and is currently in the Army. He will be getting out this year and will soon be applying for job. I have seen a lot of conflicting info on the average salary for PTAs. I was wondering if people could just post what they are making to give us an idea of what he should expect to be offered and what a good offer would be. We live in Ohio and there are many jobs available Thanks

Hi, I've been a PTA for 17 years and I'm not sure I can help, it's been a while. When I went to Corps school in the navy, I got a "C" school for which the Navy paid for my civillian education at an APTA accredited college through the Reserves. I had friends in the Navy who went to Corpus Christi, (at that time), for a Navy "PT Tech" billet.

They were told only California would recognize the military ed for PT Tech and allow military to challenge the board. At that time also, you could not transfer your license to another state. One of the girls I went to "C" school with was in the program with me. She was already trained and had worked as a PT Tech/Assistant in the Army PLUS learned minor evaluation techniques not taught in civillian PTA programs. She had to take the whole 2 year course.

Things change in 19 years though, but I would check that out first; what would Ohio require for licensure? Contact the APTA to see if any states accept military trng. I think Louisianna also used to accept it. I eon't know now, but I would start there. If he's open minded, (and better than me assimilating back into civillian life), California, in many places offers a wonderful training/working environments.

I hope it's changed. I valued everything I learned at Bethesda as a "training PT Tech" though I was never fully certified in that Navy billet. I was fully certified as a Corpsman, but I ENJOYED working at Bethesda in the PT dept. The close access to Doctors and Therapists shaped my whole view of healthcare and what it should be... Awesome...

Any way, hope that helps!
