massage therapist/ yoga teacher in Oak Ridge, Tennessee

Hi All, What a nice and helpful website this is!

I'm a massage therapist (going on 6 years) and a yoga teacher (going on 1 year). I'm nationally certified in both. I am interested in pursuing a PTA certification. I have a BS degree in human development (major) and social work (minor). I'm prior active duty Air Force (4 years, and 8 years total, which I'm finishing as of this month). I already have most of the science prereqs for a PTA program (due to the BS degree), and I really just need the A&P classes, which I've enrolled in A&P 1 for this spring semester. I specialize in medical massage and deep tissue therapies and quite enjoy working with people who have chronic pain issues. In college, I worked as a case worker, and then in the military, I worked in medical as a mental health technician. And I must say that I absolutely, hand-downs LOVE working in the physical health field sooo much more! I LOVE being a massage therapist, I LOVE anatomy (the intricacies and nuances of the human body and manifestations of health = sooo interesting), and I LOVE helping people.

BUT I want to travel. I'm single, no kids, 30. I figure that if I start a PTA program within the next 1.5 yrs, I will be done by the time that I'm 33. I really like the idea of travel PTA. But I'm wondering, how difficult is it to break into travel PTA, especially straight out of PTA school?

And are there any MTs out there, who went into PTA? Any insight that you can offer me? I've been totally independent for more than 2 years now, as a small business owner of my own Massage Therapy and Yoga Teaching practice. Now that I've established my business, my income is pretty decent, 40k+ (but no benefits, of course). I'm just ready to change it up, travel a bit, see what else I can do and learn in the physical health field. But I am a touch concerned about being under someone's thumb as a PTA since I've been independent for a while now. Any insight would be appreciated!

Thanks so much!
