Could anybody help me ? I'm 28 years old and looking for a career change. I have a 2 year old boy so however I get this done I have to do it while working full-time so I can still pay the bills. I want to become a physician assistant or a RN, and only have a GED. Does anybody know what the smartest and fastest way to get this done is ?

I think the route to becoming a RN would be quicker. To become a physician assistant (PA) you need to be accepted into the graduate program, which is very competitive and selective, and many if not most of these grad programs require you to have a degree first.

No it shouldnt. Most schools dont specify on the transcripts if courses are online and most employers dont ask for transcripts...they ask for certifications or your license. Now to clarify not all PA programs require a degree first...there are a few MS programs that only require 90 credit hours of work, there are also still quite afew BS programs and there are several AS/Certificate programs (Miami Dade College has an AS program)however you still have to have the pre-reqs completed....but the same is true of RN programs. Both are still difficult to get into as most RN programs operate with a waiting list...especially here in FL. All in all it would be cheaper to go the RN route because there are more public schools with ths program than there are with AS or Certificate PA programs.

You would still need to get the science requirements to be able to apply to a PA program. Each program may have different specific science prerequisites like organic chemistry or developemental psychology. Once you picked up those undergraduate courses, you could apply to a PA school. Your experience as a drug rep will help you. But you will still need to complete a 2.5-3 year PA program in order to become certified.
