I am a stay at home mom with 2 kids and looking for a career. I have an AA in business but I would love to do something in the medical field. However, I don't like needles or IV's. I'm not sure if PA's have to deal with this. Also, I would love to work with children with birth defects, I have a cleft lip. I would love some advice and would love to know what a typical day can be like for a PA. Thanks. |

i am a middle school science teacher with 2 kids and a husband. I am going to stop working and return to school to become a PA. From my research, PA's are trained in a similar model as doctors. PA'a are not nurses. So they don't take blood, etc... that is the nurses job. PA'a practice medicine under the supervision of a doctor. What that means is the PA can diagnose, order test, prescribe medications, etc.. The supervising doctor will review you charts on a regular bases. The PA and doctor must always be able to communicate. If doctor is not on site, via phone , email ,etc... There are 3 schools in south florida that offer the PA program: Barry, Nova, and Miami-Dade College. I will advise you to visit there website and meet with and advisor and each school so you can make an informed decision. Good Luck!!!!!! |

I suggest that you find a few PAs that you can shadow for a while and see what they do on a daily basis so you will know if this is the field for you. |
