Hey all...I have a somewhat akward situation
I wanted to persue my career as a PA when I started off a freshmen in college but due to a severe sickness in my immediate family my grades dropped drastically and I soon had to drop college to take care of the member. I then started out at a community college closer to home[did not want to go back to the university due to the terrible GPA] and did extremely well, I got a 3.8 GPA and graduated with 2 Associates degress [Biotech and Science]. I then transferred to another 4 year institution and graduated with a 3.7 in bs biology there...I have about a year worth of clinical experience [Physical therapy aide and phlebotomist] and my GRE scores are 1100[planning to retake for a higher score later]...

I think I have the credentials to become a PA but my initial college records are nasty along with the grades and the failing GPA I had there... should I persue PA school/what are my chances?

Hello student in Belmont. I really do think you have chances in getting into PA school. Colleges want to see improvement over the years. getting a 3.7 in college is no joke and they know that. You have made a drastic change in your GPA over the years and that is what matters most. Look at the core prereqs. How are your scores in Ochem and Bio classes? if you have a high science prereq i think you are in good shape. I applied to PA schools last year with a GPA that was barely 3.0 and significantly low in science and no experience at all. worse, my gpa got lower over time instead of going up..and..maybe i had 3 months of volunteer experience.i still had two months left to graduate with Bachelors. And somehow i still got two interviews. i didn't get in but when i asked them they said it was because i did not have enough experience. so trust me, it all depends on which schools you apply to. i am sure you will get to the interviews with some school, rest is up to them. Some are all about GPA and some are just the opposite. Good luck with everything! I can understand your contemplation...the process can be disappointing. i have been there. reapplying again this year. so hang in there and good luck to u! hopefully this helped.
