I definitely want to to change careers. I am currently in IT, and would need to volunteer to gain healtcare experience. What kind of volunteer work do PA schools accept? What volunteer work could I at least get started with, given that I have no previous health care experience at all. Thanks for any replies. |

Most want you to have experience with direct patient contact...working with disabled children, nursing homes, free clinics ect. While some schools take this, it is in your best interest to get a quick certification in something simple like nursing assistant or EMT which can both be done at a technical school or community college. These will give you the basic knowledge to volunteer or work in a more clinical setting and gain needed experience. While the first year is more book study, the second year is clinical based and this is where this experience will come in handy. I would check the schools website closely...while some accept volunteer experience some specifically require paid work because those jobs will give you more hands on work than a volunteer atmosphere. |

I graduated PA school and took the board exam; however, I failed it. What should I do while studying for the next board exam? I am afraid that I will lose my clinical skills if I am not practicing. Please help me. |

Buy A&L outline review book and do questions everyday!!! practicing questions online or on your computer will help you get use to the long 6 hours of sitting in front of that computer constantly using your brain! A&L "outline" review book, not the q&a, is one of the best review books I've ever read, believe me I know because I have almost every review book out there! Good Luck and split that 15min break into parts so every time you get tired or overwhelmed take a 5-10 min break and splash your face with some water, it helps! |

I am a certified and licensed PA in MA and I recently graduated. Currently I am unemployed and I would like to keep up my clinical skills by volunteering. Are there any organizations that I can contact where I would be able to get more information about doing some clinical volunteering work? |

If you are still unemplyed, have you considered moving away from MA. I live in Philadelphia, PA and there are numerous PA opportunities in local health centers. |
