I am applying to PA schools, and a couple of them require a medical terminology course. Has anyone taken this online? It has to be a course for college credit, and not continuing education.

I am a Certified Medical Assistant and Licensed Phlebotomist. Medical terminology is a whole new language that must be mastered. I am not aware of any medical terminology classes on line. I would first take a medical terminology course first and master that. There is so much to learn and so much that has to be mastered. When you apply for your PA program, if you dont know each and every medical terminology then they will kick you back and say "sorry you didnt pass". I would wait and make sure you understand what each and every term means. Such as CBC, what a leukocyte is, what is the medical terminology for the bone in the legs, the fingers, how do they work what is connected to them? How many veins are in the hands and what is their function? They will want you to know each valve of the heart and the meaning and what it does. They will ask you on the test; you have a kidney, pancreas, and bladder what comes first in the body and why and what is the function of each body part? You will have to know the greek terms of it as well. I would suggest you go and buy a medical terminology book and just go through it and see what its all about. At a Barnes and Knobles they have flash cards for medical terminology as well. You need to know if its a suffix a prefix or a conjunction a syllable, and the definition of the word.

Please take my advise and just take a medical terminology class first. Once you do that you will soar in your PA classes and be one step ahead of every one else.

I took a medical terminology course online via a local community college and was very pleased. I believe it is like any other class, you get out what you put in.

Not sure where Denine is going with it but that medical terminology class will not put you extremely ahead in PA school....for the most part you will be in class next to people who have been in the medical field for years. Medical terminology teaches you prefixes, suffixes and root words so taht you can put them together and make one long medical word....thats it, you learn the medical name for bones in the fingers and such when you take A&P. There are tons of schoosl that offer medical terminolgy online....just check with local community colleges and state universities first before you look out of state or at private schools....its cheaper that way.

I'm currently taking an online course through the Community College of Denver. As someone previously posted, you get out of it what you put in. That said, I don't expect it to "put me ahead," but I do feel better having a strong basis in understanding the terminology. The course was reasonably priced: with books, fees, and tuition, the total was under $600 for everything. (And that included out-of-state $$) If you wanted to learn more, visit www.ccconline.org -- that's the home page for the Denver community colleges that offer online programs.

I can see if you made a program to help me with Chemistry or College Algebra.
Make a program like that and you may get buyers. How can I download for free?

hmm, maybe I will do that. As for the Medical Terminology program the download is free just click the trial, it's not really a trial gives you the first '3' files I put together while i was studying. If you like it feel free to buy, I think it's worth the $9.99 with all the effort I put into it.

Let me know what you think!

How about prior to a medical terminology course, you take an English course.

I don't know of an online study for Medical Terminology but what is vital is that you need it once you are in Allied Health. Look up Dean Vaughn. I studied my Medical Terminology with Dean Vaughn. I had to use the index cards to help me and keep learning it every chance I got. You are not allowed to get one wrong. It has to be 100% right. Good luck
