ash in Chicago, Illinois

I am currently a student in Chicago pursuing my BS in Biology and BA in Spanish. I will be able to meet all of the pre-reqs for most of the PA programs I am interested in. I have a 3.6 GPA and an even higher science GPA.
Academically, I do not see a problem.
However, I am having trouble figuring out a way to gain "experience in a clinical setting." With the economy, it is incredibly difficult to find a job in a hospital or health care facility in a position which does not require previous health care experience (because I have none) or a license, degree, or certification (which I also don't have, nor have the time or finances to obtain). I am trying to find volunteer opportunities but even that process has been extremely competitive and I have been unsuccessful in finding any which would give me any real medical experience besides the patient contact and interaction.
Please help me find some way to help strengthen my application with these "experience hours"
Thanks so much

Look into low-income or free community clinics. Veterans hospitals/clinics are also good. Another option would be traveling free clinics, for example HIV clinics, birth control/STD clinics, etc.
