Greetings Brothers, I am a Local 459 hand in Montana. I started as a shipfitter in the Boilermakers in 1980, then went to Mining and in 1996 came in to the UA by way of building trades. I have given up the welding due to carpel tunnel opperations and well after age 45 the eyes started going down hill. I am currently on a fitter card, bust mostly work in supervision. I have 6 yrs of AutoCAD experience which started with the three courses offered by the UA, with a recent course for 2010 version from AutoDesk. I believe in the job packaging for of project management as it provides the neccessary information to succeed, coupled with tools, materials and acess to work area a man is good to go and will tear it up!! Some of the work I have done includes: DOD fuel systems, Whidby IS NAS and 29 Palms Marine base
I got to say this has been a facinating career. I have just finished up a UA course for Construction Mgmt. at the UA college, it covered Organizational behavior from motivation to leadership styles and was fantastic. Did you know your Journeyman status can get you 32 college credits with the successful STAR testing? That's over half of a two year degree!! Well I hope to meet some of my Brothers and Brothers to be here (sisters as well is always implied!) Keep the welders hood down and all will be shooth!! |
