Tony sheltons dealing school is the only dealing school i would recommend. I went to 3 dealing schools. The first one i was ripped of of 400 dollars when the place shut down. The second the instructor fell asleep. This one the teachers are hands on and every student who graduates is ready to deal in a casino. Tony shelton and James Kean have been in the poker industry in las vegas since it started. The job placement is unmatched.

Awesome, thanks for the info, do you work for the dealer school or something or are you on the level. I am definitely going to check it out on Monday. It would be nice to know someone down there, please come into the school and introduce yourself, I should be there at the end of the month. Do you think I will get in right away? Either way I have enough money saved up so I can get by for awhile. Can you recommend a good area to rent an apartment or Condo. Thanks I really appreciate the info. V. Jensen

You dont NEED juice to be hired at a major strip casino. I was hired at the Bellagio without knowing anybody or any Vegas dealing experience. As long as you can get the audition and impress, there is no excuse for not landing a job. For the major casinos, like its been mentioned, you will start out as on-call, extra board. And it will take a while to get Full-Time, especially with the business slowing. Just put forth maximum effort in whatever dealing class you attend and make sure you're the best dealer you can be.

Also, claiming that all students were accepted by the World Series of Poker is not really a major selling point. The World Series accepts anybody with a pulse. They treat their dealers like crap and most dealers quit. Many dealers will not be returning next year. But, you will definitely get hours for that month and a half.

J Veta in Palm Bay,

I really appreciate you taking the time to respond to my post about Kim's school - Ivy Leaque dealer school. That would be great if you could find out if she plans to hold dealer classes in the near future or if she has closed the school. I am hoping she has not closed her doors and it seems like others are also interested in attending her school. Although, I live in Charlotte NC I wanted to go to her dealer school in the Tampa Bay area. Also, from what I have read about dealer poker schools - it appears that her school has a very good reputation.
I will be visiting friends in the Tampa Bay area within the next two weeks and would like to make future temporary living arrangements while I am there if she does plan to run dealer poker classes.

Thanks again,
Melanie
p.s. If she has closed the school - what other schools would you recommend in the Tampa area or Florida in general?? or what are some of the top rated schools across the country. I know there are alot of not so great dealer schools out there and I don't want to get suckered into any of those since, I will also be paying for lodging wherever I go.

best of luck there, to deal poker at the hard rock (miami or tampa) you have to work in the hotel at a bar or cleaning bathrooms etc. for at least 5 months before applying for a transfer to deal in the poker room

Kims school has been shut down last year for good.. She was running the school illegally for years and the dept of education and business regulation shut her down and will not be opening again.. With the new poker laws taking place july 1st of 2010 it has become very hard to open a school and takes months of planning and licensing and is just a hassle.. There are only 1 or 2 schools for poker dealing and they are on the east coast in hollywood and pembroke pines. PERIOD

Hey John, thanks for your response about poker dealer schools in Florida. When I was looking up Poker Dealer schools in Florida I wanted to go to Kim's school but, as you said - I found it was shut down. So, in my further research I saw there were schools in Jacksonville, Fort Myers and Hollywood. Have some of these other schools closed down as well? Which of these schools would you recommend?? Thanks for your feedback.

Hi I am looking for a dealer school here in Miami, Florida. Specifically Hollywood, Florida, since the Hardrock is located there. I have done some research and I've found many Dealer schools here in Miami, but I'm not sure if they are legit or not; and I don't know how reliable their reputation is. If you know any "legit, good rep" school here in Miami, Florida please let me know.

Thanks,
Lee

I think the questions I have (which I will admit, may be relatively naive:p) may possibly be best answered by Rick. But I certainly welcome and appreciate any feedback and insight. So here's my situation. After working in the casino business for almost three years in Nowheresville, NE, I have considered taking a "leap of faith," if you will, saving up some money and attending a dealer school in Las Vegas later in the year.

I see Tony Shelton's Dealing School has gotten high praise in this discussion. However, my question is--what about dealing the the other floor games (blackjack, craps, etc.)? Would it be a wise investment to seek additional card dealing training from a school in Vegas to learn the other games, as Shelton's school seems to emphasize poker alone. I must admit, I am a complete novice when it comes to basically any card game, but am willing to put in the time, effort and dedication necessary to be the best I can be at dealing.

So obviously, being a bit of an outsider to the Vegas gaming scene, I am not sure which particular dealing discipline is in main demand for dealers in Vegas--I do know poker is huge, but was curious as to what, if any, benefit there would be to learn to deal the other games proficiently as well? And if it would be advisable to go to another school to learn to deal the other games effectively, which ones would be recommendable? Anybody know anything about or have any experience with Nick Kallos' school?

Bottom line is--like so many others who have posted here, I'm ready for a change in my life, and feel it's time to take some risks to make that happen, but want to make sure that if I do indeed go for it, I go about it in the best possible way that will give me the best chance of succeeding. Any input/feedback would be greatly appreciated!

Rick Lucas in Las Vegas, Nevada said: Most dealers have more than one job. Dealers normally begin on what they term 'on-call' or the next step is the 'extra board'. Hours can be flexible and you can normally work around your full-time job requirements.

School takes 3-4 months and a major commitment of time and energy. It may look easy, but in order to be proficient in all the required games, it takes dedication.

Rick Lucas in Las Vegas, Nevada said: I am unaware of any quality dealing schools in WA State (I lived in Issaquah for over 20-years). I can assure you that no Casinos hire under 21 years of age; however you can train before you reach 21.

If you want to learn to deal poker and attain the skills necessary to get hired anywhere, I recommend only one school:

TONY SHELTON'S DEALING SCHOOL
618 E. Carson Street
Las Vegas, NV 89101
www.tonyspokerschool.com
tonyspokerschool@embarqmail.com

OWNER/OPERATOR: James

It is a combination school/referral service. His results are unmatched anywhere - EXAMPLE: His school sent 15 dealers to the 2009 WSOP and ALL 15 WERE HIRED (not to mention that with his graduation certificate they were able not only to get the 1-year experience requirement waived; they were offered a private interview wherein all 15 were auditioned exclusively).

Well, the WSOP will hire anybody. They need every dealer they can get. And they will accept anybody that can hold a deck. I work at Bellagio and they will be hiring dealers for their upcoming tournaments. I believe they did hiring for October, and they will most likely be hiring again for December, and then again for next summer. Jobs are out there, just apply and get an audition.
