I tried to do a study to find out what the average police officer in the US makes. I came to this website hoping to confirm what an average officer in Stoneville, NC makes and it was DEAD WRONG! I'd like to know who does this website and does the studies for police salaries, because my husband doesn't make on average 43 to 48,000 a year. In fact he makes about 22,440 a year before taxes. That's pretty pathetic for any officer to make who's willing to lay his/her life on the line for some Tom, Dick or Harry with a stick up their butt because an officer is trying to do his/her job. Granted, this town has 5 officers, over 1000 people, but IMHO 22,000 is not enough to lay ANYONE'S life on the line for. Yea of course they get medical, which partly comes out of their pay, and yea, 401k is great if you can spare money out of your wages to put forth, and life insurance is good to, so long as you can pay partly for that our of your salary too. But I don't know...

It's not necessarily the Town Council's job to get the grants... if the Police Chief is on the ball he should know where to look for and get grants and FREE goverment surplus vehicles and equipment that is in perfect shape... I'm driving a 2004 Crown Vic with a P71 package, 48K miles and loaded... cost my agency $40 in gas to go pick it up and about $400 for tag and title work. |

my husband was/is a US Army Vet. of 16 years. He has not only a high school diploma but an Associate's Degree as well. You can have all the education you want but still be a low paid police officer. And yes, you're right Doug in Ashburn, Georgia, it is up to the chief of police to get grants, and better equipment but in this town you have to have the council's approval before trying to get a grant. They've also, (in the past 8 months) have cut the town's police department from 5 officers to 3 (with a handful of reservists) because this town does not have the funds. On average, to answer Dr. Phil's question, a police officer's salary varies from one state to another, (including major cities, towns and counties) and it also depends on their experience and age also plays into one's salary. Not alot of departments are willing to hire a "young gun" because 9 times out of 10 they're too cocky, and have an attitude towards different people. On average in this state for an officer's salary is between 22k to 38k starting out (again depending on experience and education). The chief here laughed when I had told him that an average police officer here in Stoneville is making around 48k a year. He noted that he "wished he was making that". I'm not going to tell you specifically what he earns because ONE: he didn't mention that to me and TWO: it's probably to embarrassing to even mention if other officers were to see this ROFL. GL on your studies, cuate. I hope you can find an actual website that will give ACTUAL facts to what you're looking for. |
