What are the top 3 traits or skills every qa engineer must have to excel?

Can you suggest any tips or insights to develop your qa engineer expertise?

Black Belt (Sis sigma - stats galore), Being a computer guru is always a bonus (powerpoint - for all those pretty charts and graphs, excel and any other program used for presentations. Additionally, you must know GD&T (print reading & metrology - gages needed to check product). Those 3
capabilities should at least get you a phone screen

You probably need to be more specific, what kind of QA Engineer? It's a catchall phrase for a lot of positions these days.

I would say automation and scripting experience or knowledge, those are the areas I am lacking and working on to even get another QA job.

If it is software QA engineer you need some database skills as well. General sql query language. Using QA tools such as Test Director. I agree with Sean as well, some exposure to running or debugging automation will help. Such as rational or QTP from mercury.
