What is the best training for becoming a Research Scientist? What types of ongoing training or certifications are necessary to be an effective Research Scientist?

Of course this depends upon the technical area. Some companies, like Honeywell, may apply the term "Research Scientist" to positions that only require a B.S.. Other companies may require advanced degrees, such as a Ph.D.

Certifications depend upon the technical area.
