I am a respiratory therapy student at California College for Health Science. I am having problems finding a clinical site and need help. If someone is willing to be a preceptor or can advise me on a clinical site, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks! |

Can't you ask some students who are in RT programs where they are doing their clinicals? like go to a "teaching school"? |

Hi Shannon, Try calling your local hospitals. Don't fax or even email. Just call. If no luck, try the small acute centers. |

I live in the San Bernardino area. Does anyone know of ANY facility that is willing to be a preceptor for the RT program for a potential CCHS student? Is anyone training with a preceptor now and do you feel you are getting good training? |

I am looking in the Mesa/Phoenix area for a preceptor for the RT program at CCHS. Has anyone used a preceptor here or know anyone willing to serve as one? Thanks |

A lady on here had suggested that students start a list of hospitals that have willingly accepted CCHS students, so that it would serve as a helpful resources for existing and future students. Maybe someone should start a topic such as this, and everyone who is or has attended can post which state they are in and which hospital has accepted them for clinicals. I know a few students on here have been successful, so hopefully some of them will come in and chime and list their hospitals. Don't give up, and be discouraged, keep trying, and I wish you luck! |

CCHS (California College for Health Sciences) is also known as Independence University. It is an online university that offers two degrees in RT. You should check it out. It seems that the online course work is pretty staight forward, but the key to this program is finding a preceptor. You have to find a facility that will let you do 720 hours of clinical work. The preceptor is the person at the facility who is your supervisor for your clinical hours. The facility does not get any compensation, just your free services. The idea to start a list of places that will accept CCHS students is a great idea. If and when I start my clinicals, I will post information about it on this site. Again if anyone has any information on a facility in the Phoenix/Mesa area that will accept RT students for clinical hours let me know. |

I live in Mesa and am very close to Apache Junction. I am interested in learning more about your facility in Apache Junction. What is the name of your facility and can you offer clinical hours on the weekend or in the evenings? I am a stay at home mom. Thanks for responding. |

How do online students learn/prove/check off on skills? Just curious. Do you watch a video of someone performing the steps to suction a pt (for example) and then go into your clinical site and start practicing on live pts before demonstrating you can do the procedure correctly/safely? What about vent management? Where do you learn how to run a vent, where you are actually touching the vent and making selections and changes? One of the most important part of college, at least in my opinion, was having hours upon hours of lab time where we would learn the skills, practice them, and then have to be checked off on them before we could do said tasks in any clinical setting. How does this work with CCHS? |

OK, I was not a part of IU or CCHS but my university offered Advance level of Registry program online. I have completed both my registry program and the clinical app 300 miles away from my university.
First, I google-mapped local hospitals.
Most of hospitals are not willing take students from schools that are not affiliated to them and that's the fact.
Good luck finding clinical sites! |
