KAT in Los Angeles, California said: WELL SINCE MY LAST POST I'VE CHECKED OUT SMC/ELAC AND NOT ONLY IS IT A SLOW PROCESS ITS VERY COMPETITIVE. ITS VERY HARD GETTING CLASSES THAT U NEED AND U MAY HAVE TO WAIT A SEMESTER OR TWO JUST TO GET SOME OF THE PREREQUISITES. PERSONALLY I HAVE NO TIME TO WASTE. I'VE JUST BEEN EXCEPTED TO ATTEND THE APRIL 25TH CLASS @ GARDEN GROVE CAMPUS. ORIENTATION IS THE 20TH AND I WILL REPORT BACK ANY VITAL INFO. HOPE THIS HELPS.

Hi KAT,
I am having the same financial aid issue that you did at Concorde. I am I owe around $8K and cant get Private student loans because of bad credit and no co-signer.
How did you get around that if you don't mind me asking?

Hi. I am maybe considering going to Concorde in Garden Grove for the LVN program. Does anyone know much is tuition for the program? Do they give certificate or degrees? And would anyone also like to tell me what would be better (if anyone can), Concorde, ACC or Summit?

hello after looking at all the comments just a small suggestion. why doesnt anyone look into PLATT college.they just started a respiratory program in alhambra. they have had a program in ontario but because it was to far from me i was going to attend concorde gg. after talking to some of their students and faculty they seem better prepared then the concorde students. the other thing is that we get students from both schools at my job and after talking to the supervisors from the respiratory department they seem to say that platt student seem a little more prepared. the students from platt seem to be happy with the school

Marc, If you don't mind me asking who did you speak to from Platt's faculty and from which campus. I too live in Downey and the Ontario campus just had their first graduating class pass the CRT exam with a 100%. None of their students failed. It may be better to go with the proven campus in Ontario but I would like to know if you spoke with faculty at Alhambra. Did you also speak to students still in the programs or while they were doing clinicals where you work?

hi john. i spoke to erika or rebecca i believe is her name. sorry i was dealing with a different rep but she no longer works there. i actually spoke to students when they were doing their clinicals at my current job. those students were from the ontario campus they were from the first class that they offered and they all seem to like the school. now that you mentioned that they scored 100% on the first class makes me even more secure in going there. after that first class i have kept seeing students from that school and they still seem to be happy with the school.

RRT in Hawthorne, California said: If you are anywhere in the Rancho Cucamonga area you should try to get into San Jaoquin Valley College (SJVC). They are the best around. It's a little more difficult to get in because they really filter the applicants. You need to take entry exams, write an essay, provide referrals, and go through an interview process. It's definatley worth it though because they are in good clinical sites from CHOC, Huntington Memorial, White Memorial, Riverside County, Kaiser, Long Beach Memorial, Loma Linda, UCI, Good Samaritan, Eisenhower, etc... I live in Orange County and commute out there. OCC is a good school but SJVC offers the program in 18 months and it costs about $36,000 which is cheaper than Concorde. Concorde is considered a joke in the RRT world and they are definately put behind students from SJVC, Mt. Sac, OCC, etc... when applying.

The tuition for the Respiratory program is now $43,000 at SJVC!

I checked out Concorde for the RRT and they wanted nearly $49K. Platt is $43K and only 18 months. Same cert and you can sit for the RRT. Only thing is that Platt RT classes at Mon-Thurs 145p-745p. Straight thru. No breaks or vacations. Attendance is strictly enforced. If you don't come to class you can't pass. Simple. Put in the time and you with finish in no time. Platts last grad class passed the CRT with 100% passing rate. Whereas Concordes was around 80%. Not to mention Platt limits its class size to 20 students per term for their program. Smaller class size means closer more detailed attention.

Shop around. If you have the time and can wait it out... Community college is fine. If you have drive and determination and don't mind the loans deferred when you graduate in half the time. Do an accelerated program. In the end your clinicals and your license will get you a job and your on the job experience will build your career. You choose your life not your college.
