Bear in Lincoln Park, Michigan said: Rolinda, Didn't mean to step on your toes. I didn't realize one was given credit for helpful information. I thought this forum is where we all share information and learn from each other. I read the article and viewed the video and thought the information would be helpful to anyone considering for-profit-programs/schools. I apologize if you felt discredited. Enjoy the journey. |

According to these websites University of Phoenix is accredited by the Higher Learning Commision standard. The HLC is under the North Central Association Commission on Accreditation and Improvement of Schools. Here is the NCA website
1.Go to the bottom and click on NCA with HLC
The HLC website that states UOP is accredited
The HLC accredits distance learning programs. |

I am planning on starting my Masters in Elementary Ed at UOP, and I am doing thorough research before I decide to start next week. According to these sources, UOP has the "go ahead and start" as it is accredited. I will be calling the department of education in GA, TX, FL, PA, TN, DC, NY, CA, and puerto rico to see if UOP is accepted in these states. I will post answers as I call. |

I just called GADOE, and yes, UOP degrees are accepted there because UOP is accredited by CHEA. www.chea.org |

I Just called NYSDE, and NY Does NOT accept UOP because UOP is not REGISTERED with NY. Not because UOP is not accredited. Someone is supposed to call me back to tell me what will happen if I go ahead with UOP. |
|

PA does accept UOP cert. Once UOP is completed, the student must apply as an out of state cert. |

Cannot get in contact with Fl. fl is busy and i will try back later. tn does accept UOP in elementary, middle grades, and special education. Not in early childhood. I dont know what early childhood majors would have to do to get certified in tn. i am guessing take a few extra classes. |

Whew!!!!!!!! I have been calling and calling and a-calling. And since this is the peak season (where ppl are trying to get jobs), I have been on hold on the phone with states dept of ed. for awhile. TX accepts UOP creditentials. After UOP is finished 1. Pay $177 app fee (I know right)
FL accepts UOP creditentials 1. Pay $75 fee 2. Turn in app and CG1 form and transcripts from all colleges attended. Turn in copy of AZ certificate
Still cant reach NYSDE (sad face) Washington DC 1. Pass praxis and turn in certificate and transcripts

Bilked by "For Profit Schools" in Vista, California said: Their accreditation is not from the WASC (Western Association of Schools and Colleges), nor the HLC (Higher Learning Commission). The credits will NOT TRANSFER to state schools NOR public schools--for that very reason! A "national accreditation" for purposes of financial aid is being audited/investigated now, as the "for profit schools" are being indited for financial aid fraud--by "creating" these faux "national accreditation" organizations strictly for the purposes of profiting off of financial aid and Sallie Mae Loans. If U of __(your state here) will NOT accept your credits, then it is NOT truly accredited. (Google 'University of Phoenix Fraud' and "Diploma Mill Financial Aid Fraud" and "For Profit Schools AND Financial Aid") If you are only going to be in your sole area of specialty (RT, Pharmacy Tech, Phlebotomy, Etc...) then this is NOT an issue. If you plan to move FORWARD in your career, it IS an issue. Financial Aid officers in "for profit" schools are "sales people", as are the "career counselors" they employ. If you don't go in with your eyes WIDE OPEN, you'll buy/accept whatever they say as being true. Many GREAT RTs have come from "for profit" schools that are not ACTUALLY nationally accredited--except for purposes of "receiving financial aid". "Regional Accreditation" is just a key term used in "sales" to sell you more classes or another program. Kaplan falls under that blanket--"for profit school whose credits will NOT transfer". Of COURSE they took you! They wanted your money! This is another reason. Jeff in Marietta, I take it you didnt read the whole discussion before replying to my comment. I posted this information for anyone who wanted to know if certain distance learning programs were credible or not. My advice is to read the entire board before making a comment or asking a question hun. |

One of the best ways to verify the different "opinions" posted on this site is to get in touch with folks who are in the program. I know someone and I am sure other do too. All I will say is the program has issues and is not as advertised so PLEASE GET IN TOUCH WITH SOMEONE IN THE PROGRAM! |

Yeah, I'm not going to read 24 pages of posts, some of which are nearly 4 years old. 90% of the posts on this board are a complete waste of time to bother with. I asked the question. You kindly gave me an answer. I will not read the entire board before posting in the future, but thanks for the advice. If you happen to be a moderator, please consider cleaning up these boards and archiving posts that are years old and deleting all the other bs. This is one of the most ridiculous and frustrating sites I come to. 1K+ posts to a thread that is 41 months old is absolutely ludicrous. |

I second, third, and fourth that comment! IU has big issues, and although I'm graduated, it's been a very long struggle, and I haven't taken boards yet. I've said before that folks are welcome to email me privately and I'll tell them my story. If you have an option other than IU, take it. In the long run, you will not save any time, certainly not any money, and your education will likely not be as good as one you could have gotten elsewhere with close supervision and very supportive/hands on teachers. |

KatRCP in Lawndale, North Carolina said: I already obtained my AS degree in Respiratory back in 2003 when IU was then known as California College for Health Sciences. I never had any problems with the school then. Everyone was very nice and very helpful, you just have to be willing to do some legwork. You have to be dedicated, and you will do just fine. Just pay attention and ask the right questions and make sure if you are enrolled in a program that you have in writing what you will receive once you have completed it...for example, certificate, assoicates, bachelors, etc. I am hoping to go to PA School...but I need to get my Bachelors Degree first, so I am going from Respiratory to Health Services Management for my Bachelors Degree.....my question is, does anyone know if Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem accepts credits from the school? I want to make sure that my degree will transfer to them if thats in fact the school that I want to go to. I have called the school, but am waiting for a call back. Hopefully I will be able to tell you guys whether they will or not. The Chairman of CoARC's Board of Directors, Dr. David Bowton, is a professor at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center. You might want to try to contact him for an answer! |

I have been reading post after post and was wondering has anyone in Austin,Texas or close to Austin been through the rt program at Independence University? If so did you find a clinical site? If anyone else has any suggestions on getting a clinical site please fill me in I would really appreciate it. Thanks guys! I am wondering the same thing. I am considering going back to school for my RRT and already hold a bachelors degree so I am wanting to complete in 2 years. I cannot find a program that is close to Austin,TX that is a 2 year school except for Temple College (1hr away) or IU.

That is a problem that is common complaint with this program and that is a BIG issue with this program - it's very disorganized. There is very little assistance for the students in the IU Resp program, but don't give up. |

For a one year, the school never got in touch with me. After a year and half, my account was reported to collection and that collection agent now reporting that I took all 10 classses with grade F at a full cost. As at today, they are threatening to take me to court and has also reported my account to credit bureau. If you have similar experience, talk to a lawyer for help because the agressive collection agent is out there and rude. email me when you can i have a question with this matter i am having trouble too travman422@aol.com |
