RRT05 in Bklyn, New York

Hey everyone, I've got a few questions.

I'm currently living in NY but would like to move. Buying a home in NY is too expensive for me. I've applied for licenses to work in: FL,TX,CT,OH,DE,PA. I was considering travel therapist but w/ the economy was it is I need a stable job.

At the moment I'm planing on seeing some houses in Florida - Saint Augustine Area. The prices for homes are great but I'm worried that I won't be able to find work. Florida has a bad rap when it comes to Respiratory Therapists and what we're paid. Any advice? Should I consider the other states that I'm licensed in, if so please tell.

The only advice I could give you is to not buy a house until after you have a perm job. The job market is really tough right now.

I am a new graduate of a repiratory program from the community college in muskegon michigan...i passed all my classes with A's and made the honor society from my college. i have sat for both the CRT and RRT and passed both of the tests and have a license in michigan to work as a resp. care practitioner...only problem can't find a job and any job i go for does not want to deal with me because of the catch 22 don't have any experience besides a yr of clinical experience...but how am i gonna get the experience if no one takes the chance and hires me....am very disapointed with the whole thing. I am now going to go for a BA at Ferris state for healthcare system administration(HCSA) while i wait on the waiting list to begin nursing school. while i will not say the 3 yrs i spend in resp school was a waste, i will say that for this area of healthcare if you do go into resp. training you will be competing against a great number of other people just like you, it isn't the cake walk once you get your RRT credentialing that the teachers make you believe, to do it all over aqain i would opt for nursing over respiratory therapy hands down...it is no contest.

well maybe on your side of the state the jobs for RRT's are different but on this side of the state i have my resume submitted to 6 different hospitals...airway oxygen, MMPC, home health care providers, ect...do a job search for RRT jobs in west michigan, you will see..west mich is terrible for rrt jobs while nursing jobs are still there so as far as not looking hard enough that is not true...i have a family here in west michigan and just can not pick up and change where i live....and it is way to far to drive 4 hrs(1 way) to the other side of the state for work

Does anyone know what the market is like in houston for new grads? I am considering getting into the field and starting a program this fall but after reading some of the posts on here it makes me nervous.
