Glad it worked out for you! There is another school going in around Ontario. Off the 10fwy I think. More and more schools going in.

Hi Ron,

I am looking into IU for RT school. Are you still attending? How has it been for you? I appreciate any insight

Hey coral I absolutely love this program...I'm finishing up my first term right now...it was kind of hard since you are learning all of the foundations for respiratory care but its well worth it!

Ashley,
It's good to hear a positive review from someone!
One more question, what is the cost of tuition now? I've heard everything from 30,500 to 65,000!

Coral, it was just under 36,000 I don't remember the exact amount...ever since they decided to give us laptops the price went up. I'm not wire why there are so may negative reviews for this school actually. The job outlook isn't as great as it used to be but it will get better because of the age of the profession (most need to retire) ,Obamas health care, and the influx of all the smokers that will soon get sick....but the school itself is amazing...they teach you alot! They just had about a 100% pass rate on the first try of the crt exam..I think one person failed.

Coral, now that I think of it most comment must be about the other locations. Rancho has a great program. A few weeks ago other instructors from the different locations came to observe how our instructors teach the material.

Paul in Corona, California said: Ha! Rumor?! I know for a fact! And I have documentation! Give me your email and I'll send it to you...

You should really know the facts Paul. Look at the source of the rumor, the particular student who instigated all of it. The student is manipulative, and deceitful; spread rumors for no apparent reason except to exaggerate their own diluted ego. So, before you claim to have proof, make sure the source of the so called proof is legitimate and not some cropped, fake picture used to create evidence to protect them from expulsion. Also, I know for a fact that this particular instigator cheated in class, got a hold of exams from previous students, flirted and went out with other instructors and behaves extremely promiscuous. The student is definitely not a victim of anything and in fact a predator that has destroyed this instructors life. From what I understand the particular instructor that became the prey of this person has now consulted legal action, as this event which had absolutely nothing to do with their ability to teach has rendered them unemployed. If you do not want to be included in a defamation lawsuit you probably should stop dispensing information as it is slanderous. I just happen to be a good friend of this person, and I will be sending them your name; Paul in Corona.

Please let him know that not everyone believes the rumor and if it is true most of us could care less were just mad that he had to leave and she didn't. And I don't think He has proof, he never sent anything.

However, there is a lot of teacher turn around and it has been bumpy the last few months. Other than that. You get great experience and I found are job ready by the end. A lot of the teachers will bend over backwards to make sure you understand what is being taught. But it is about 40 hours a week school attendance and attendenace is a must. There is no tolerance for tardy or abscences.

How long is the RT program at SJVC? What classes do you take in the program?

Hi, I am currently in the SJVC program for respiratory therapy in Rancho Cordova. Im going into the 2nd term right now. The program is 18 months. If you have taken classes at other colleges they may transfer. For preterm, classes are online. Its only a month and its english, algebra(very basic), and computer. Then you start 1st term which is health which they teach you everything you need to know to start clinicals, respiratory physics, chem, and anatomy/physiology. 2nd term you start clinicals twice a week and more classes. The program builds the gerneral ed classes into the program. Hope this helps you out.

@ANONNY I chose this school because it is one of the few schools of this type to have credits transfer. They are W.A.S.C. (THEY CERTIFY COLLEGES) and they have a MOU you can read, all Cal State schools take most of there credits. And there is another 40 or so colleges that take there credits. I transferred mine to C.S.U.N. but if you have a college that is certified by W.A.S.C. (WESTERN ACCREDITATION OF SCHOOL AND COLLEGES) it is very possible they will accept some of the classes.

I am interested in applying for the RT program in SJ. Can anyone give me some advice? So I heard it consist of 3 test, and if you pass, then you get into the program? Do they let you use a calculator for the math portion of the test?

I don't remember being able to use a calculator on the test but trust me it is nothing to worry about. I studied for the tests and when I sat in front of the computer it was nothing like I expected. Don't stress about it.

Can someone give me an entire breakdown of the program? What are the demands of the program? Full time part time? If I have completed my general ed could the program take less time? Is there still a decent job outlook? I am very interested in the field but want to make sure I am able to make the time commitment and be able to afford not working if that is what is required of me. Any further information would be splendid.

Hi Faith, I advise shadowing a RT and a RN, if you haven't done so already. Both are demanding and rewarding careers. Observe the daily tasks and ask questions. It will give you a feel of which profession is the right fit for you. I know Nursing isn't for me. I like what I do as a Respiratory Therapist and I often receive compliments from my patients that I'm good at my job and they can see I enjoy doing it. I found my niche. I'm happy and proud to be a member of this profession. Believe in yourself and follow your heart. I hope this helps. Enjoy the journey.

Hi thank you for getting back to me so fast...i tried to see if i could shadow a RT and i was told that i couldnt until i was an actual student???? See i started RT school then after a semester found out i got into RN, as i always wanted RN so I thought, but when i was in RT school i actually loved it. Yes it is hard as heck but i really enjoyed what i was learning. So when i found out i got into RN I took a leave because who turns down RN right??? But since i left im really stressing if i made the right choice, again because i really enjoyed RT school.

Hi Faith, Don't sweat the small stuff. I'm happy for you. You may love RN school just as much, or more, and if you find you don't like it, you can always re-enter the RT program. In my opinion, this is a win-win situation. Being accepted into the RT and RN programs is a great achievement. I'm proud of you. Life is good. Enjoy the journey.

I've heard from a few of the current students that it starts easy and at about the middle of the whole thing it gets really really difficult. The most recent class started with 22 and is currently down to only 6. Ha, I guess I should have asked what the passing percentage was first. Oh well, you have to do what you have to do. Now that I read the last few comments I'm hoping I luck out a little bit more in the teaching department... time will tell.

There aren't really any pre reqs at this time. My sis just started the program and as of now you still don't need any prior education. There is talk that SJVC might extend the program to 2 years instead of 18 months. Also I heard that by 2015 you'll have to have a bachelor's degree to be able to get licensed. Not sure how accurate that is but that's the rumor. So chances are in the future you'll probably have to get some classes at the community college before you could get in. Hope that answers your question.

I'm Currently taking anatomy at a community college and was wondering, if it was required for RT in SJ? I was planning on applying for the program maybe in fall 2012 and take some prereqs like physiology, microbiology, etc at a community college first. I heard they don't required any prereqs, so at SJ, do you not take anatomy, microbiology, physiology, etc? is it a bad idea to take these classes then apply?

Please let me know. Thanks.
