I am currently in my last year as an RT grad. I am trying to find teaching hospitals that will hire new grads. Can anyone tell me of some good hospitals that are hiring?

I find it repulsive to be honest. I feel I was suckered in and deceived to think there are jobs. I would never, ever recommend PIMA in Mesa. They are worthless to the nth degree.

I myself don't feel suckered at all. I feel that I have learned something that will stay with me for a lifetime, even if sadly I never put it to use. I think I might apply for nursing now. I'm very thankful to my instructor and the people that helped me out during RT school, there's just simply no jobs in California and I cannot afford to move to another state.

Everyone, keep your chin up. Hopefully there are jobs out there in 2012...

In response to your questions... very difficult but not impossible. You might actually be the lucky one. Don't give up and don't let anyone dissuade you. I have my very down days, I get depressed a lot. I'm tired of being poor and not having anything and I hoped that I would get picked up by some NICU willing to train, but those are very difficult to find.

But like I said... Not impossible. Maybe you will be the lucky one. Start looking now and calling hospitals as a student to find out. Don't wait 'til you graduate.

I just wanted to tell you guys to keep your heads up in this job market. I graduated in August 2011 and and found myself feeling less than hopeful at times. I went on a job interview in early December to a hospital that I had done multiple clinical rotations in and the interview lasted maybe 10 minutes. I got a call later on that week and I got the job so it was a great Christmas present! So just be positive and hopefully 2012 will be good to you guys.

It was also hard for me to find work. Reading rejection letters became the norm. All jobs wanted experience, but all of my classmates were finding work. I started taking other exams.
I passed the RRT, The rejection letters got a little nicer. I considered relocating to another state, even getting licensure for that state. Then,I decided to go for another certification, the CPFT.

After passing the CPFT I started applying for that required pulmonary function credentials. That's when things started to happen. I'm in a good place now, day shift only, weekend & holidays off. I know you're probably applying for any and everything just to get a foot in the door. Been there, done that. To shorten this story, separate yourself from the pack. Don't apply for jobs you really don't want. And most important of all don't give up. It took me 14 months or more to find a job.

hey, whatever can get you in the door. thanks for sharing. even though most graduates wont have experience, is there a way we can work without getting paid, just to learn and practice our skills?

You might be able to contact some places to see about volunteering. Just keep applying and everything will eventually fall in your favor. Good Luck

There's a bunch of kool aid drinking RTs that come on here saying the job market is good. When it's actually bad, really bad. They think cause they have 20 years experience and have 3 jobs. That jobs are easy to come by for everybody. I guess they don't hear those stories I have, about hospitals getting 100 to 1000 applications per open position.

I agree Mike 100%. I would discourage everyone from resp.therapy and moreso PIMA. they've been of NO HELP WHATSOEVER.
