Can a girl be in a roofer's union.. how hard is the job?

I am looking for a better paying job and was wanting to know if a girl is physically capable of being a roofer. What might be some obstacles in my way of becoming a roofer. I am no amazon woman but I would like a job that I can be outdoors in and where my surroundings change.

I think it would depend on who you work for I hump 4 bundle of shingles up a ladder at a time that is like 360lbs. Contractor are work all the roofers hard and hard to increase profits I bench like 455 shoulder press 225 and curl like 155.

Jacqueline, I think you can do anything you set your mind to do. If being a Union Roofers is what you aspire to be, go for it, physical labor is only a part of the trade, eventually you'll get enough knowledge to move beyond a field worker. This trade offers positions such as crew leader, foreman, superintendant or you can get involded in your Union and become an instructor, Shop Steward, Business Rep., Officer or maybe even a Business Manager.

Good luck in whatever path your decisions take you.

she didnt asked you how much you curl hot shot.but you are just a laborer humping shingles for the man.she was asking roofers opinions not grunts

lmao no one humps four bndls of shingles at a time...........dreamer........lol and yeah ive worked with women and they can do the job. even men, if its heavy you get help from someone.........biggest problem you;ll have is wierdos trying to impress ya lol

by the way, try commercial roofing theres a world of difference between commercial and residential. most union work is commercial.

I was first trained in hot tar roofing in fla. I was trained on a reeves kettle system.

Started doing shingle at like 17 or 18 after a hurricane. I do hump for bundles I been into weight lifting since like age 11. I grew up in the middle east, and work in a stone quarry at an early age.

union roofers don't do shingles and if we did we are union we carry one at a time,,i am local 154 member for 16 yrs and i had many women in the union....
