ELVIS in Dubai, United Arab Emirates said: YOU GO FOR DIPLOMA IN INDUSTRIAL SAFETY AND THEN TAKE NEBOSH CERTIFICATION BUT YOU MUST BE AN ENGINEERING GRADUATE The best way to be a Safety Engineer is to start from the bottom which is the Safety Officer. This will be the very foundation of your knowledge of being a Safety Practitioner wherein an individual gets to encounter the real hazard and situation on site which lectures and theory don't usually tackles in. Hence, working as S.O. will greatly increase your chances of getting the higher position on safety profession and of course you have to have those HSE Qualifications (NEBOSH / OSHA / IOSH Certificates).

You generally need a bachelor's degree in science or engineering to become a safety engineer. It usually takes a minimum of four years to get this formal training. Some employers prefer to hire graduates with special degrees in safety management or occupational safety and health. Others look for people who have a master's degree or some work experience in a related field. In some cases graduates of two-year college programs can become safety engineers after some years of experience as technicians in this field. Undergraduate courses should include behavioral, medical, and social sciences. A list of colleges offering degrees in occupational safety and health is available from the American Society of Safety Engineers. Many companies provide additional training for their employees. Safety engineers continue to study new developments in their field throughout their careers. Here i found online training classes for safety engineering

Depends on what country, & state you're in -- and what variety of safety interests you-- for the US, bare minimum is the OSHA 30 Hour Construction Outreach course, if you're going to work around chemical s, or demolition, you should have the 40 hr HAZWOPER course as well. Basic construction-- wouldn't hurt to take Fall Protection Competent Person, Scaffold CP, and Electricity for Non Electricians, as these four areas comprise the largest part of the problems you deal with daily. You should also be a a good communicator, flexible, and able to keep a high level of awareness on several foci simultaneously. The eventual goals should include the CHST and possibly the CSP credentials if you plan to make a career of it. |
