Kim:

I'm a 66 year old retired guy driving special ed kids to and from school each day for the past three years, for a private company in North Jersey. Most snowy days I get a call from my boss at 6 AM that school has been cancelled. The School Superintendent's office is very cautious about kids, school buses, and snow. Don't sweat it.

I can get pretty bad driving a school bus in the snow in MA. I drove a school bus there for 12 years. However, depending on where you will live and which company you will be driving for they are very good about teaching you and where I drove they have busses with ABS and traction control. I lived in Marlboro, MA

I've been doing it for eight seasons on the coast of Maine. The technique you use in a car is pretty much the same, but you have to keep in mind that you're at the front end of a 10-ton truck. It's all in the spacing--triple it, keep the speed down and give yourself extra time. If you work for a big company (mine is First Student), you'll get plenty of safety training.
