In Illinois you must be 21, have a clean driving record and criminal background . Most companies train you and help you get your license

REQUIREMENTS FOR A SCHOOL BUS DRIVER[/QUOTE First of all you cannot have a criminal past. You go to the company and put in a application. They will give you a little personality quiz.
They will tell you the date of the starting class. From that point you must study to pass a passenger endors test, a commercial vehicle test, and air brake test for DMV. Also you will study for a DL-45 (SPAB Certificate). This test will be taken at the sheriffs department. You must also pass a air-brake apply test and a written test at the sheriffs office. The sheriff will ride on the bus with you every test you must pass to become a school bus driver. Studying is your best key. I've done it , you can do it, it only takes 6-8 weeks. If you can't concentrate you won't pass.

I have been driving a school bus for the past four years appied at other bus company closer to home in milwaukee but I was told at each one that since I already had a cdl that I had to go back ten years on my job history
