I live in Vista, Ca. I am a stay at home mom trying to sell things on the side to make extra income. I need to find someone who can sew a product for me on a regular basis. I have yet found someone that can sew this item for a reasonable price in order for me to even make a profit. The item is basically a mini fitted sheet or a baby changing pad cover but is being used for a different purpose. Nothing high tech just a 16 1/2 x 32 1/2 piece of 100% cotton material that needs to be hemmed all around and elastic on the ends.

My friend that sews said that she could probably make one cover in 10 minutes or less but she is too busy with her other work, so i can depend on regular business with her.

This would be a perfect job for someone who is talented and could basically do this with their eyes closed.

I mostly sit on the sidelines here, don't contribute much because it doesn't seem anyone really listens. It gets old being the messenger that everyone shoots on sight.

There's two issues here, both legal. The first is, it's illegal to operate a business like this from your home in California. It's illegal to sew for money from your home unless it's a custom item for another consumer (not a business). Both the owner (designer) and the sewer (contractor) need a license. The state is really nasty about it and with budget shortfalls, they're stepping up enforcement (fines can be in the thousands of dollars). You both will need a garment manufacturer's license. The second legal issue is CPSIA, are you aware of that law? It applies to anyone making children's products. It's a federal law and applies to everyone. Basically, it's now a felony to produce kid's products if you have not PROVEN they are safe and fail to include a very special kind of label.
