finding quality designer fabric's

My question is where to find great quality fabric's. I think of designing a garment and cannot find the quality you see in designer labels etc. When I lived in Pittsburgh, there was a wonderful store in Mt. Lebanon called the Fabric Place. I also took a trip to Chicago to a store and was very disapointed.

Would love to also find great quality trims, heavy cotton lace, etc.

I think you would have to search NY or California for wholesale fabric companies that supply that kind of fabric. It is not going to be easy to find it. Good Luck.
