Could I get an estimate on how much it would cost to get a costume similar to this made? except in black and red. I can't buy one online so for Halloween I would like to have one made (if it isn't too expensive that is) I'm about a size 12/14 and just a general guess as to price would be much appreciated! fanchaos.com/fanplusfriend/c4/Elegant_Gothic_Punk_Suits_3Pcs_C00255N_01.jpg |

Oh, WOW! You have great taste, that is a truly stunning outfit. I am a seamstress with six years experience and I specialize in custom formal and bridal work. My most recent from scratch wedding gown was a civil war period correct fully corseted dress - just so you know I'm somewhat knowledgeable! :) Those are really expensive materials, so a lot of the price would depend on what materials you used. If you made it out of less expensive fabric and then just used expensive trims, said and done the materials are probably about $70-150. Those fabrics I would estimate $200-350. How much quality you would be looking for would depend on how much your seamstress should charge you. There are a lot of choices to be made with custom clothing like - do you want to use a base pattern and design on top of it, a pattern, or choose a seamstress who can design something completely one of a kind? Do you want it lined? How important is construction? (As in, how much will you be wearing it? Jeans have much better construction than the average bridal gown for example. :) ) Will it be boned? Sewn-on tailored or general sizing tailored? (Sewn-on means that it is made for YOUR body and your body only and takes some more time.) Intimidated yet? Sorry! These are all questions that a seamstress should ask you when undertaking such a project, however. I would suggest walking a line on all of those points between cost and really making a garment that you feel fantastic in, because that's what it is all about, right? Depending on your answers to the above questions (and if you answer them I would be happy to give you a solid quote if you do!) if your seamstress is charging $10/hour like I do, you should be looking at between $100-$400 for labor. $400 would be drafting and designing a pattern for a corseted boned lined garment, and it is unlikely that you would want something that elaborate. I hope that helps! Feel free to email me at sewcountrygirl@ymail.com. :) |
