I have recently been sewing patches on coats for a bakery. There are between 2 and 6 patches of varying size. I get $5.00 per coat. Is this a good amount or should it be more? I have to do it by hand since it is on the sleeve. D |

D, That is way too cheap! If you do quality work and pride yourself in your work, don't sell yourself short. Seamstresses are a dying breed and we need to stick together. Patches should be no less than 3 dollars each to sew on....the bigger the patch, the price should go up. If you 'undo' the seam on the underarm, you should be able to lay the sleeve out flatter and then sew the patches on with your sewing machine. Sounds like you should be getting a minimum of 15 or so dollars per jacket in my opinion. Good Luck! Shirley |

I charge per patch, 4-10 each. If by hand I would do it for no less than 40 a coat. |

I tend to look at these things as an hourly basis. How long is it taking you to complete each jacket? I wouldn't charge less than 20/hr, which could then be divided by the total number of pieces. Hope that helps, and hope that you start getting paid what you're worth! |
