SECURITY GUARD LICENSE AND TRAINING IN NEW YORK

I'm a fire safety direction do i still need a fire guard certificate of fitness.

hi me & my friend have been looking for jobs for two years. we have our 8hr, 16hr, & even our licenses. we've went to every security company in queens & almost everyone in Manhattan. we've reapplied over & over & noone will give us a chance. they only want experienced guards or high school diplomas or a drivers license but people have to start out somewhere right? we were kicked out of our house this summer & i only have about 50 cents to my name & hardly any food left while we're staying at a friend's. our friends give us some money when they get paid but i feel like were pushing our luck. should I just look for a regular job or keep looking for security? the thing is we've already applied EVERYWHERE. & I do mean everywhere. I dunno if its because we don't have our high school diploma but nobody has even called back for an interview. if they did we would show them how dedicated we would be to the job. we really want to do security because it will look good to future landlords you know being a stable career & all. and after 2-3 yrs of security we could go to TSA & get better pay & benefits & all that. if we get jobs we can get an apartment & not worry when we'll be kicked out again. I really need a job badly because i don't want to go in the shelter. can anyone help? if they know a place hiring or if they could give a recommendation? I swear I won't let you down.

Does Armed Guard training and completion give security guards access to carry batons and handcuffs?

No permit is necessary to carry handcuffs in NYS, but you will need the permission of your employer to use them. They will generally require that you are certified in their use first.

Unfortunately, ALL batons are illegal to carry by civilians pursuant to NYS Penal Law Section 265.01; however, security guards are permitted to carry personal sized pepper spray (the type authorized under state law for carry by any civilian) with the permission of their employer.

You need to complete another NYS Guard application, be fingerprinted and submit to Dept. of State. Cost - $105 for prints, $36 for NYS. Also make sure your classes have been updated.

There is no such thing as a fire guard class. It's a BS certification that if you take it to 9 Metro Tech they will let you that its not worth anything. Anyone can download the booklets and read it themselves. It only cost $25 to take the exam. Look it up

No, you must have a NYS drivers license or non-driver ID issued by the NYS Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) to appy for a license even if you already have the training certification. It is the DMV that actually produces the security guard card and they use your file photo in order to to that.

Go to the NYS Department of Labor and they have counselors that can help you to get a job. They usually have funding to help you get your GED and other types of career training as well.

I had good luck with this company Angel Outreach Solutions. I went through a previous "school" and got scammed out of over $500 when i found out they weren't certified. I went down to there office and it was beautiful! Amazing what the difference was - it actually seemed like a professional office. To make a long story short after a consultation with an advisor (no hard sales pitch and no $80 placement fee) I redid my 8 and 16 through them and went through the placement and got a job within 2 weeks. forgot their number but their website is aonyc.com. What a differenc!

yea im bout to start my 8hr and 16hr and fire guard w/fingerprints all for FREE!!!!!! state building at 125ST in harlem just have to meet the requirements and then go to orientation. think the next class is in june tho sucks i kno but remember...FREE

How much was the training?

its to my understanding that even if my license expired in 2010 that if i have my 8 hour cert from 2008 i can use it to reapply for my license with the state. do I still have to take a class or do I just get the application, do my fingerprints and send it in?

Call FJC security. That's how I got my license, even though I got my 8 hour from another school but they will help you get your certs and they will take the money out of your check when you start working. Also you can join WorkForce1. They can help also, you just have to be willing to go through the proceedures and don't let no one tell you that they don't do that. It a lie, they tried to tell me that they couldn't help me but I pressed on. Also you can try public assistance and ask them about The Goodwill program. Good luck to you. I wish you the best.

I was thinking since I have my license & a lot of people don't I would be a step up from all the other candidates. Well I got the complete opposite. I'm in NYC & I just NEED A JOB. You guys really don't understand how much I need this.. No. These licenses are State License only.

Fireguard Prep. Depends also if you need the FIREGUARD LICENSE for office buildings, corporate buildings, hotels, motels, shelters or stadiums (The Barclays Center is a huge project)

You got it Steve. Just send in that application, receipt from fingerprint, copy of your 8 hr and the submission fee for the State and in less than 7 weeks your license should be ready.

It is illegal for a security guard (who is only a civilian) to carry a baton in New York State pursuant to Penal Law Section 265.01. It is best to take advice and security guard training from those who have had NYS police experience and know the law. You may also check with the New York State Division of Criminal Justice services about what you can carry. Handcuffs are not illegal and neither is personal-sized pepper spray unless your employer prohibits you from carrying same.
