Join ASIS and look into corporate security. Get out of the guard service unless you are in a corporate propriatary security department. Take a project management class and test. Get into security systems design and learn all you can about secuity access systems and video monitoring (how they work) - look forward into security management and how you can get a state certification as a security manager.

Thats all true but you may also want to look at the l.e.a.p.s. program from the dallas police department alot of good info there its all from the texas law books

Without fail, read the following books in the order they are presented:
1) Gift of Fear by Gavin de Becker
2) In the Gravest Extreme: the Role of the Firearm in Personal Protection
by Massad Ayoob
3) The Truth About Self-Protection by Massad Ayoob
4) Home Emergency Pocket Guide by Informedguides.com
5) The U.S. Government Guide to Surviving Terrorism
6) On the Internet, read about the gangs in America and their tattoos.
7) Go to FEMA.gov, look under training, individual and corporate, and take the
on-line courses. After taking the tests, on all sorts of subjects guards need
to know- print out the certificates of completion. They can be listed on your
resume as formal training.

Security is everybody's Corncern. The important part of it is to have connection on the three C's which are Connect, Confirm and corperate. and also being or going through safety inductions builds the confidence of operations in security. As an advice be part of Stornbridge Assosiated Collecges, Asis and NEBOSH for Security and Safety Studies. The benefit is much appricieted.
