Audilia in Boston, Massachusetts said: Thank you for this info. I am very worried for my son, who is in his last year of college majoring in CJ. He was recently in a fight with someone he did not know, who picked a fight with him. It was self defense. The person he had the fignt with who initially started the altercation, was seriously hurt (he fell and hit his head on the sidewalk and was bleeding from his head), my son now is facing two felony charges a&b aggravated and a&b with a dangerous weapon(shod foot) My son denied that he used his foot, but admitted to punching the guy several times. We cannot afford a paid attorney and he was given a public defender. My son fears that he is unemployabl Well he could go and get a certification of relief. it depend how long it happen? but he will be alright because i am a felony and i have certification and every time i go for goverment job. i made me a copy and put it with my application. so tell him it will be alright |

chuckie in Brooklyn, New York said: That is absolutely incorrect. A person is eligible to work in security with a felony in almost every state. If the state requires a license it can be issued under certain circumstances (rehabilitation certificates, certificates of restoration, restoration of civil rights certificates, certificates of good conduct) I have a felony and I am the Chief of Security in my firm and I am legally allowed to carry a Taser and a firearm because I have obatianed a rehabilitation certificate How would I go about obtaining the rehabilitation certificate?? |

I know on one of the question it asked if i have been convicted of a felony/crime withing the last 7 years? Will this answer be yes or no? I live in Texas and when I was 17teen I got a felony. It has been over 20 years ago. I have no more felonies. I do have a handful of misdemeanors. I am seeking to become a Security officer. I am enrolled in college pursuing a degree in Criminal Justice and I am going to enroll in the Security officer classes. This will all take place in about another two years. I have come to the point of giving up and changing my major and career choice. I want to work in the field so bad. If there is a chance then I will continue. Please tell me more on the road that you had to take to become so successful. Thank you. |

I am seeking a degree in Criminal Justice and I plan to enroll into the Security training programs. I have a felony conviction from 20 years ago when I was 17teen. I live in Texas. I sure hope I am not wasting my time and money for I truely want to be a Security officer with a passion. I am open to any advice that can or will help me on my journey to improve my chances of getting licensed in ANY state. Thanks to all. |

I was recently caught shoplifting from a supermarket and was arrested. Stupid move, I know, but I'm out of work and have a family to feed. I have a court date in April. My friend has agreed to lend me money towards my license so would the arrest affect me applying to get my security guard license next month? |

BigLock2 in Park Forest, Illinois said: Not in all states. Some states go by the type of felony it is. I know I have one also. Illinois and some other Midwestern states bar you but, others like Connecticut go by what your charge was. what if your felony was dropped to a gross misdemeanor like conspiracy to withdraw a deadly weapon? |

I have had my license for 12 years, that is one of the questions asked and if you lie it will be found because they do a complete background check on you as well. Sorry it is not good news. I'm a class x felon I received my security license so yes you can get your security license |

Do not listen to these people. If you have a question about a felony in regards to a job, do not ask the internet. Every one of these people who said absolutely not do not know what they are talking about. I went directly to the Illinois Department of Financial & Professional Regulation, who issue the PERC cards. I told them I was a felon and wanted to work as a security guard. The lady from PERC licenisng department told me to wait about 7 years from the conviction date, then to apply. She said to explain what I have done since being convicted and if they believe that I have demonstrated that I am trying to change my life they may issue me my PERC card anyways. |

It doesnt matter what the felony is or whether or not you have a certificate of rehabilitation. And its called a Certificate of Relief From Civil Disablities, and if you have more than one violent felony conviction, the State of Illinois will not give you one and you must apply for a pardon to get it. |
