What is the best training for becoming a hirable security officer? What types of ongoing training or certifications are necessary to be an effective security officer?

What do non-traditional career paths look like?

You are already ahead, when you have law enforcement back ground and military. You can get about any job in security. But, if you don't have any training. Most Security jobs, will train, for as certifications, it all depends on the job, you will be working for.

Try to recieve your training from a community college that has a criminal justice department, they usually utilize the police instructors for training the Security Officers. Take the job seriously and dont let your standards slip, inorder to be treated like a professional, you must act like one. Stay proficient with your weapon, utilize courtesy and plan on starting your own company. Use your early pitfalls as stepping stones to starting your own thing one day. good luck
