I am an foreign medical graduate and despite having all my USMLE steps cleared and being ECFMG licensed, I couldn't get into residency. I was an OB/GYN back in Germany. I did the ABSA certificate for surgical first assists. Now I would have the opportunity to work as a surgical first assist with a Neurosurgeon here in South Carolina but apparently I have to be a PA or RNP to be able to be reimbursed by the insurance companies here. The same applies apparently if the Surgeon hires me;he can't be reimbursed for my services if I am not an PA/RPN.
Is this true, has anybody experience with this or knows something about the regulations here in SC? Are there any states where an IMG can work as surgical first assist without PA/RPN school, just with the ABSA certificate?
Any advice would be highly appreciated!!!
