Maybe I could just ask the questions and anyone who has a moment to reply.......

If you do reply, could you please leave your fist name, your career title and where you work? I REALLY appreciate it.

1. Why did you decide to become a surgical tech?
2. How would you describe what you do?
3. If you have complaints about your job, what are they?
4. What is the easiest part of your job?
5. What is the hardest part of your job?

Thank you soooo much. I really appreciate it.

Aimee

Hey Aimee,
1) When I saw a commercial on tv about a school offering surgical tech program I knew it was for me, plus I always wanted to be in the medical feild.
2)What I do is prepare the room for surgerys, keep insturments in working order and assist in the procedure any way I can.
3)My only complaint would be some people are lazy and they try to hide so that they don't have to work and then you get stuck with the work they should be doing.
4)Learning new things. Asking questions
5)Doing what you got to do even though everyone else is purposely avoiding work.

i was interested in pursuing the field, but one of the people i spoke to told me they did not think the field was for me. i was told that some surgeries last for hours on end. i am aware, but it also depends on what kind of a doctor or surgeon you are assisting. am i right? the problem is i have a four year old and we have no nearby family. i need a set schedule. am i asking for too much? should i look for another kind of job?

hi fania,
surgeries (cases) usually (98%)start at 7:00am which means you have to be ther earlier the next shift is at 3:00p.m and 11:00p.m to 7:00a.m.
in surgery center you will not have to work on wkends or work holidays and no p.m shifts but you still have the early start.
it doesn't matter how long the cases are because you will get your breaks but a lot of times they want you to stay over at the end of your shift.

HAVE YOU CONTACTED A SCHOOL? THE SCHOOL I SPOKE TO HAS CONTRACTS OR RELATIONSHIPS WITH OTHER HOSPITALS AND THEY CAN PROBABLY HELP YOU OUT

i APPLIED TO MEDICAL TRAINING SCHOOLS AND THEY CALLED ME IN AND SHOWED ME AROUND. THEY PROVIDED TRAINING IN ROOMS THAT ARE BUILT JUST LIKE THE ACTUAL HOSPITALS AND THEN THEY TAKE YOU TO WORK IN AN ACTUAL FACILITY AND THEN AFTER YOU GRADUATE AND TAKE THE CAAHEP EXAM OR WHATEVER IS REQUIRED, SOEMTIMES THE HOSPITAL WHERE YOU TRY YOUR EXTERNSHIP MIGHT LIKE YOU AND KEEP YOU OR ANOTHER HOSPITAL YOU APPLY TO WILL TAKE YOU.

Fania. Try a surgery Center if you are looking for a set schedule, Most are M-F 6:30-5:00 with the option for O/T on Saturday.

Is the salary lower for Surgical Techs who work at surgery centers as opposed to the ones who work at hospitals or is it about the same?

Actualy a surgery center pays more than a hospital does I have noticed. And another good thing about a surge center is the set hours you have when you work at one.

how long is the surgical tech course? And what school offers the best training in the Bay Area in California? Also, has anyone ever been dissatisfied with working as a surgical tech, and do you feel it to be a rewarding career? Thanks for your input.
