I am currently in Clinicals for Surg Tech, and will graduate in mid-June. Prior to registering for this course, my research indicated that entry level STs were making an average of about $15/hour, plus benefits... There is a very good probablity of getting a job at the hospital where I am now doing my internship... but I now hear that they only start their new hires out around $12/hr.
This has me very nervous... suggestions?

Take your Certification test. As a certified tech you should make more. Also take call. Also look around at other hospitals. Maybe consider a specialty field. One of our graduates from the last class got a job on the Heart Team!!! Not all hospitals offer the same pay rate.

I started out at 12.88 and after 4 and four and a half years am at 21.00 per hour. work hard and go for specialty training. ortho and hearts are the best teams to get on. these salaries consider how much you make taking call. I take around 90-100 hours of call a month and this really increases your salary. will graduate in mid-June.
