I found a school that recently added a surgical tech program and was very excited about getting started. However, I noticed today that they are not accredited with the CAAHEP. So that means I would be ineligible to take the national exam with the NBSTSA. Is there another national exam you can take? Do you have to be nationally certified to get a job? Or should I just avoid this school all together?

If I were you i would avoid the school altogether. I just finished a phlebotomy program last year and I am having that same issue. I wasnt aware when I started of what kind of accreditation that I should have been looking for and now I am having a hard time taking trying to get certified as a phlebotomist. I made sure that my surgical tech program was on the CAAHEP list before even applying to avoid this same frustration.
