Donavan Hogan in Washington, District of Columbia said: I have enjoyed Cali more out of all my travel assignments. Hey, it's Cali. Me, I choose my assignments if the city has NFL, NBA, and baseball. I'll deal with the hospital when I'm there. I squeeze all the fun out of my assignments. I may be wrong, be I rate the city over the hospital. When I was in Phoenix, I did the assignment because they hosted the superbowl. I'm on my way to the Virgin Islands in January when I finish here in Washington, DC. They don't have any teams, but I'm sure I'll find something to occupy my time when I'm not at the hospital. Don't get me wrong, I love what I do and take it very seriously. I'm proud to be a Surgical Technologist. I'm constantly correcting RN's and others that we are Surgical Technologists, not scrub nurses, scrub techs, and ORT's. Because of that, I have decided to the certifying exam. If we get everyone to take it, we will be a step closer to becoming liscened. Surgical Techs are liscened in the state of Washington already. If we are liscened, we will make a whole lot more money. So, if you are not a member of AST, join and let's make this thing happen.

I would love to hear your comments about this.

I DID SEE AN ADD FOR A TECH IN ST.THOMAS TRAVELING AND IT SAID THE PAY WAS 6.00 AN HOUR . HOW COULD THAT BE ? COULD YOU TELL ME APP. WHAT YOU MAKE? MUST BE FUN ESPECIALLY IN THE WINTER. WHO DO YOU WORK FOR . THANKS MAUREEN

6.00/hr is too low. The pay there is lower than the Continental U.S. Tru Staff will combine your pay and housing together that will add up to $27-$30/hr. After housing is deducted, you will be making about $14-$15/hr. Just look at it as a paid vacation.

Childrens, andrews airforce base, bowie surgery center, river road surgery center, Inova asc, woodburn surgery center, now at sibley.

Ummm have you been agency previously? I mean as agency you are thrown into situations that you may not be sure of but you muddle your way through. I Like agency for the simple fact No politics involved. Flex days (dont have to worry about their staff schedule), I don't need the benefits so better pay. And if I don't Like it I only have 13 weeks or so! Reasons not to....Not much of a orientation. Your expected to know and do. You will get left overs( usually docs that they don't like).

If you are put in a position your uncomfortable or a case tell them because your expected to know it and they don't know if you do or don't!

Hope that helps

Yes, I have traveled for 4 years. Research your companies but I like have have used a lot. Healthcare staffing, NOVAPRO (Kristin Ricci, Recruiter) is my favorite. Tell her Judy Melda referred you. I'll split the bonus. It's rewarding but the best advice I can give you is do it their way, don't try to change anything. YOur only there 13 weeks. Housing is nice and it's easier if they supply the housewares. That way you don't have take all that stuff. Let me know how it goes. E-mai me Gillispie40@aol.com

I don't have a degree if that's what I need. I do have my high school diploma. What do I need to do so I can learn more and earn more money?

I guess you learn on the job? I thought you have to go to school to be able to travel. I have and associate in Surgical technology, and I am certified. If you travel, you have to learn how to know how to scrub general othoro, basic stuff. I hope it works out for u. I really dont know how it really works.

I traveled as a single parent with my two teenage children for 4 years. We homeschooled, and it was a fantastic learning experience for them. It is great to have your family with you although not all companies will be willing to accomidate you with the extra space. My company always provided me with a two bedroom. I was lucky!

Dear ststudent,
Not so fast Julie, although your right in the sense that most Travel companies require 1-3 years experience, there are in fact Travel companies that will hire fresh Graduates. Bare in mind you will not receive Top Pay and the quality/selections of Hospitals will be limited. In addition, with the current global economic crunch, most Hospitals are cutting Agency work altogether therefore getting a job as a fresh graduate over one with experience in this kinda environment would be very difficult indeed. Your probably going to have to be pretty open to perhaps moving out of your area or even leaving state to find a job. Also, it's very important to have a knockout Resume' during these difficult time too. Best of luck to you my friend...P.S. one such company- that comes to mind- that hires fresh graduates is PPR Healthcare, however I'm not sure if they hire for ST's or not.
