Are jobs in this industry on the rise? Are there any sub-sectors that are growing?

Where are the jobs? Which places have the most tow truck driver opportunities?

It's like everything else.
They want you to have a college degree to do anything now days.
And when they cant fill the position with their overly high expectations they say no one wants to work.

The truth is. no one wants to pay.
Everyone wants to be the one making a million dollars and forcing the ones that actually do the job into poverty and then they are the fist to bi-tch because everyone's on welfare..

So. If yo must go back to school to better your self.
Go to school and be a Dr or a lawyer. When your done with school you you'll have a license to steal either way.

If we could pay more we would. Here in IL we have to find drivers with at least 3 years exp. for the insurance company to cover the driver, talk about a license to steel. The fuel, equipment and repairs have gone up yet the motorclubs have not, since they have taken over the industry. We have been doing this for over 35 years, no chasing, repo's or relocations, just straight towing. To keep our good drivers we have downsized, my husband has gone back in the truck and I am dispatching again, while working another job. But I am not paying my drivers what they deserve. A $35. tow is not cutting it, but is the motorclub rate here, AAA lower pay and you have to compete with their fleet. An lets talk about the slow pay dealers that went out of business and now are filing bankruptcy, which we will see nothing from. Time to do something else.
Your advice is good, get and education, and look for a job that doesn't require the wear and tear on your body, the rude people we service because they are have a bad day and the mental drain of traffic, construction and vehicles in unsafe locations. You are correct, we did make money at one time, but not now, for at least the last 10 years our cost have grown and profit decreased.

I have been trying to get into numerous places as a tow truck operator. I quit my job as a truck mechanic a month and a half ago, I have also been driving taxi part time nights for a year. NO ONE will give me the time of day. I think they are thinking "Why the hell would a mechanic want to do this?" I used to enjoy the taxi job due to all the "wow" moments due to some truly shocking human behavior, not to mention hot women that I met, but dealing with crackheads is wearing thin. I honestly like helping people and think that I would enjoy it and be a good earner. around here its a tough gig to get. Looks like my tool box aint home for long. :( I am NOT a kiss ass. this could explain why i cant get a job.

no college degree can prepare you to throw away evry second of peace in your life and sacrifice your entire social life.. This buisness is in your blood or its not.. I believe its harder now to find work cause as the economy worsens people that normally wouldnt drive trucks are coming into the buisness where as before it was just the guys who were fortunate enough to get kidnapped into the buisness young

AAA and the other motorclubs ruined the business...they are the fast food of towing
