I have been working as a travel agent for about 6 months now, and just put in my application for an IATA number about a week ago. I understand that first you get on the "list" and then you can apply for the actual card...I just booked a trvl agnt rate for a hotel, hoping that I'd get on list by the time I checin...I have heard that the hotel frontdesk only asks for your business card?? and rarely do they ask for the IATA card. Is this true?? I guess I'm just a little worried of not having the actual IATA card when I checkin...not even sure if I'll be on the list by then. Should I be worried?

I would call IATAN and ask them for the status on your card.... Some hotels ask to see it, some don't. Depends on who is working the desk at checkin. If they want to see your IATA card and you haven't recieved it yet, just explain to them that it's "in the mail." Most of them are cool. They are res agents - just like you. You'll be fine.

I worked in travel for years and I was at a hotel and I asked if they wanted to see my IATAN card. "What's that ??" many asked. In all the years I paid for it, i think I actually
took it out of my wallet about 3 times.
